Australia and credit cards

My daughter and her partner have bought flights to the uk for 31/7/17. Sadly, these flights are with Qatari airlines with a stop at Doha. Qatar has just had its diplomatic ties with neighbouring Arab states removed. This includes air space, it seems.

The flights were paid for by credit card. Do the same rules apply in Australia as do in this country, i.e. that you can make a claim from the credit card company if your goods & services disappear?

I really don't know, but has your daughter had confirmation that the flights will not be rerouted?

[edit] checking the news reports suggests that flights are being mostly rerouted.

It's the airline's responsibility – if they can't reroute then they'd, I'd assume, refund directly. Credit card companies will only get involved if there's a dispute over the payment or service and you've (or they've) exhausted all other avenues.

But anyway, I'd just call them and ask. It's a big airline and a popular route to-and-from Australia.
