Brevet Cymru 2018

Anyone know if there'll be a Brevet Cymru in 2018 (run as a BRM too while I'm asking ... ) ?

There's nothing in the AUK organisers planner as yet

There's still about 6 weeks or so to the BRM deadline so there's time yet. A pity if the event discontinued (or even took a break). It was my first ever Audax!

Thanks.

Keeping my fingers crossed. It would be a shame if it disappeared.

I am keen to have another go at the Brevet Cymru after my attempt in 2011 at making the route even more challenging by heading off to Beulah from Tregaron and being forced to abandon at the point of no return somewhere in the Cambrian Mountains where all the hills seemed to be 25%.  Several entries to the event subsequently led to a series of DNS to add my solitary DNF. Unfinished business or there's no fool like an old fool!  :)

I made the suggestion last year that I would ride a mandatory route diy by gps and all hell broke out. I love the ride and it is the only one I come back to year on year. So if it does not run you may see me solo somewhere in Wales.

Probably my fave 400 - just saying...
I dunno why anybody's doing this!

Yup - it's a good one. I'm keen to go for my 3rd straight Brevet-Porkers (on the trot - ho ho!) ... but if it's not on, it'll have to be LWL-Porkers instead perhaps - ? The logistics for that would be 'interesting'.

I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

They're generally on the same weekend.

Unfortunately I have been landed with running the club's open 10 on the Sunday.  Need to open up the HQ at 7am, and the time has passed when I could finish a 400 in less than 18hrs.

I am in too, will ride to the start, just not sure if through the night, that way it would be a one continuous ride or if I should cycle through the day during Friday, sleep in Chepstow and then do the ride ???

If anyone has downloaded the routesheet or GPS files. Please be aware these were carried forward from last year's substitute event (that run under this events number?). There are considerable road closures/disruption  in and around the Chepstow area. So it is highly likely that route changes could be made. The official routes will be issued after the event entry has closed and RTCs for the event week end have been established.

"401km cycling event starting from Chepstow. Controls at Hay-on-Wye, Llandovery, Tregaron, New Quay, Llandovery and Llangattock, plus 2 information controls.
"Clasic Welsh 400, traversing Wales West then East. Good commercial controls used as far as 296km. Rest/sleep control at 341km."

NB info controls reinstated (cf absence last year) and if late night stop is Llangattock again (as in 2016) then the distance is 352k (cf 2017 at Bwlch (341k)).

I’ve entered this but I might have to bow out as I’ve so few miles and could be under pressure to train with race crew if selected for Monmouth Regatta. Will see.

Anyone riding this and the Porkers?
