We were at 35,000ft, the cloud was a fairly thin layer maybe 5000ft below us. So the level horizon was somewhere above the cloud you see there, but the earth horizon somewhere below the sun (obvs!). It's quite a significant zoom; maybe 20x?

And, in the opposite direction, sunrise above Ullswater this morning from my favourite bivvy spot on Glenridding Dodd,

Sunrise!

Heron Pike at first light

Sunset the previous evening promised much, but then the cloud rolled in from the west,

Sunset beyond Raise II

And inbetweentimes, it looked like this:

Y'know when you're looking at those pictures whilst lying in a Travelodge bed with sirens and traffic noise coming through the tethered-ajar window there's just one word that springs to mind.

Wild and wet on the fells this morning.  I sheltered in the lee of the obelisk (cairn doesn't do it justice) on Hallin fell for this one just after sunrise

Stormy sunrise, Ullswater II

and got well and truly soaked for this one

Thanks Ruth.  It really isn't cold overnight at the moment, still into double figures.

Plus I wimped out: slept at home in me own bed and got up at 4am.  To avoid the wet rather than the cold.
