Do we have to have done an SR this year for the medal?

AFAIA there has not been any suggestion that the 40 points should include an SR.

Where/when can those medals be ordered?

I wanted something to leave at the Tommy Simpson memorial on my London-Manche-Med-Manche-London DIY in a few weeks and an SR medal looks ideal and means something to me (though, technically, I won't be an SR yet for 2016).

I can not see them on the usual SouthportCC page.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Not sure you can buy them;

"Riders of a Super Randonneur series (4 rides, one each at minimum distances of 200km, 300 km, 400km and 600km) during the 2015-2016 season will receive a special commemorative medal at no cost!"

Cool - googling audax badges took me to the old page - http://audaxmedals.southportcc.co.uk/BuyBadges.html

Awesome - better buy something now then.

Ah - we get the SR and the 40@40 one free if we manage the numbers.

Ah well - Tommy will have to do without for now as I don't have the weekends free to finish an SR before I leave!
Right! What's next?

Indeed - but don't expect them before the end of the season, as we're planning to order them once numbers are known.

Aidan was kind enough to give out the randonneur badges at the Chevy, and I've hit 40 points (pending validation), so just* the 600 to go for the SR and the full set.

I plan to set the badges up diagonally on my saddlebag, a la the classic flying ducks.

I mean for the SR medal; does it have to have been ridden this year or any year 1976-2016?

I would like one of those SR medals so I suppose I should do an SR :) I've planned one, so there's a start.

I won't get 40 points as there's a lot of other sportives (sorry!!!) and races that I want to do, but they look nice.

I do fancy the full set. I think I can manage 400 based on what I felt like after 300 and have a tentative plan. Have found a cunning plan to possibly make the time for a 600, the mahoosive question is - do I have the ability? Guess I'll know more based on what happens with the 400.

Typical.   I go off an do something different this year and there's more shiny things to collect.

Please don't leave things on Simpson's memorial. It leaves it looking like a rubbish tip, which he wouldn't appreciate. Also, some poor sod has to go up there and remove the assorted feed bottles, tubs, inner tubes etc. Take a photo, enjoy the ambience then tarry to the top.

The number 40 isn't a nice number. Think I'll stick to my preferred numbers.

It's only 40 because we've been going since 1976 which is, well, 40 years ago.  I'm curious to know when and where AUK was formed.  Was there a get together at Stratford on Avon Youth Hostel?  I've a dim recollection of seeing a list of Reunion venues somewhere but I can't find it on the current website, nor in the most recent Handbook, so I'm not sure if I'm imagining it.

My current favourite number is 59.

Incidentally, did anyone else do a double-take of Steve Nicholas's letter (reprinted in Arrivee 131), which was published in the CTC magazine in 1975 advocating the creation of what would become Audax UK?  His title was "Competitive Touring".

I presume you can include LRM events in this 40 point total?

Well I'm on 45 and I'm 70 next month so it's 70@70 for me this year. Then maybe 71@71 .....   Could be more fun than Eddington numbers.  8)

Quiet aware why it's 40. Think the year 2000 challenge was way better as more inclusive and we were told before the season started. Also the badge was excellent and free.

The majority of AUKs that will complete this task will be the usual suspects. And those suspects will go for 50 or more as that's where the silver and gold standards are.

I'm sure you are quite right, but I like to think that there might be some out there who might feel the extra incentive to reach 40 points.  Anyone hoping to target an SR and a RRTY will, as a minimum, reach 31 points, so that's within striking distance of the 40 total.  Or maybe not.  Anyway, who knows, perhaps we might see a challenge for 50 points in ten years time.  I'd be delighted to be able to aim for that.

Only true  if they started rrty in October, I only joined  in November  and didn't have time for an event in Jan or Feb, so while I am planning a rrty now and plan an SR series this year, I only expect 23 points this year, to get to 41 would require 9 extra brevet in the next 5 months on top of rrty requirements
