The pictures themselves were mostly OK but the lack of on-screen time gaps and captions, especially towards the end when things started to get fragmented made it difficult even for TV's C Boardman and S Brotherton to follow who was where.

They still did a better job than Hugh Porter would do even with on-screen captions and time gaps.

There were just a few times where Radio's S Brotherton showed his lack of experience, eg wondering out loud why Astana's Jakob Fuglsang should be putting in so much effort to ride on the front, apparently for Nibali's benefit.

I liked the bit where the commentator was commending Kwiatkowski for riding on the front of the bunch for his Team Sky teammates, despite having his compatriot Rafal Majka on his wheel

The following is from the Radio Times site, "How to watch the Road Race" guide thingy:

"  On TV, the most important data is the kilometres to go graphic and the gap – this tells you how far the lead rider or group is from the finish, and how far behind the chase has fallen behind the leader. Often, times will be given for as many as three or four groups if the race has split up. Each time gap will be taken from the leading rider  "

three or four groups??  :P  :P   :P

Dear the Humax,  thanks for crashing with 40km to go. Good job I switched it on and found it was still going.  Missed the Porte crash and all the excitement at the front...
.

Mine didn't crash, it didn't even start the recording. Often fails to record red button stuff  :-\

We hadn't scheduled it, but got home to find it on so started recording. Pingu left it on as he wasn't sure how it would work being the red button. Which didn't stop it turning itself off, obviously.

Is E Pooley really only half the size of everyone else in the race?

Especially when riding next to whichever Dutch rider it is wearing #3, who appears to be 8' tall.

Freeview 608 over here, if you did the pre-Games retune.

If the mechanics have any sense they'll be fitting chain-catchers and a dozen turns of gaffer tape round the bottle cages before the women's race.

And cue a veritable deluge of bottles.  Silly spannermen don't read yacf :P

This hill's livening it up again. Couple big riders just trying to hang on in there.
