It'll bring the d80 price down though..

I'm thinking of getting a second body, maybe a sh D200.

Having now read the preview - I want one. It's got enough improvments over the D80 to make it worthwhile.

Problem  is, apart from the money, I don't even understand all the buttons on my D80!

So is anyone getting rid of their D80 on the cheap?  I love my D40x, but really want a nikon F1.4 prime :P

I'm leaning toward the D90 for a first dSLR purchase, though the D60 & poss the D200 are there as well.  :) The low light capability of the D90 CMOS sensor really seems, to be on a par with the D300; not sure about the video - may be useful.

A colleague points me every now and then to SH D200s, but for the £450-700, I suppose the body weight, the age, the battery life, lack of substantial - if any warranty, and the D90, slightly put me off. The D90 kit is £750-£850, but - the D60 kit can be had for £280 from Jessops (inc Nikon cashback) which is a great price.  My only issue with the D60-D40 is not major, but probably comes down to bracketing features, lack of in camera focus motor; the compact size is a definite plus...  But my lumix and FE2 (having my Provia 24mm landscape attempts developed soon) will tide me over in the meantime...   :)

Every so often I am tempted by the idea of a second body, a d40/50/60. But the size and the fact that it misses a load of focus points and buttons compared to the D80 really persuades me No.

I think I am after a sh d200 body - that would be great.

I previously had a 18-200VR after a dropping incident, so not the new kit lens.

It's been a bit dull here, so no pics yet. There's a lot more buttons than on a D50!  ;D ;D

Ok - here's a quick one

1/8th sec, 6400 ISO

The crop should come out actual size here.

Here's full frame so you can see what proportion the above crop is.

These are quite interesting...  the D90 seems to be slightly better than the D300 at high ISO.

Hmmm.  All the newer Nikons appear to have great high ISO performance.

Takes out D200 and lusts after D700....

... or good in camera processing. A better test would have been to set the iso and take the raw file unmodified to process identically for each camera.

Shame he didn't put the D80 up there as well.

Jaded, how's the D90 experience going?  How are you finding metering reliability, IQ etc etc?

It's going well - it's done a friend's wedding and had various other excursions. I'm very chuffed with the image quality, and the low light capability. Focussing is definitely faster and snappier than the D50. I've given up setting any exposure adjustments and now accept what the meter gives me - again that is a change from the D50 where I was faffing about with - and + adjustments.

However, there are so many settings and so many buttons that it is going to take me a long time to get to the bottom of them all!

The rear screen is a delight, as is the view finder. I've used LiveView a few times but it is intensely frustrating. Much like using a cheap compact digital - slow focus and questionable metering.

Biggest bug-bear at the moment is that there isn't a D90 RAW converter for Apple yet. I have to convert the RAW files to DNG using Adobe's converter before I can shove the images into Aperture.
