The people who live on the near side of Barsalloch Point get wonderful sunsets over the sea in the winter, but as the winter turns to spring, the sun sets further north, and by mid-April it sets behind the
heugh. So they won't have seen this last week.
Right on the promontory, looking down on the point, there are iron age earthworks known as Barsalloch Fort. There are several advantages to building there - easily defensible and close to the sea for food and transport. But I'm convinced that they settled there because you get good sunsets the whole year round. I'm sure our ancestors enjoyed a good sunset as much as we do.
