Brian, which book are you using? It looks really good - and probably expensive!
I have a few moth books. The one I use for quick references is the Concise Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland by Martin Townsend & Paul Waring. £12.95 on yon tree forest site.
If I need more detail, then I consult a rather more weighty tome, the Field Guide to the Moths of Great Britian and Ireland, by the same authors, £29.95. This book is a bit more scentific, goes into more detail including larva stage.
My third book, which deals solely in Micro moths is the Field Guide to the Micro-Moths of Great Britain and Ireland by Phil Sterling and Mark Parsons.
For a beginning mother, I'd recommend the concise guide as it isn't too technical.
