Don't pay for any winzip type thing.

Use 7zip, it's free and betterer.

I'm sure any recent version of Windows (XP onward) can open zip files natively

Well I had an expired freetirla copy and as soon as I uninstalled Winzip, the zip file changed to an image file *.img

Hi again,

I have the osm map on the Garmin, thanks for all the help. I now have the Forth and Tay gpx file.

So on the microSD card I have the following structure:

/GARMIN containing a directory ./GPX/ and the gmapsupp.img map file image
/GARMIN/GPX/routename.gpx file

So I have learned:

to start the route off:

select 'Where To?' icon.
select 'Tracks' icon

lists:
'Current Track'
'Forth and Tay'

click the track you want and you are taken to the map page with a large GO button on the foot of the screen.

Frankly Frankie has written some good articles in Arrivee (and probably online somewhere) on how to get on with your GPS.  Worth reading.

Ron the cd is free from www.ordinancesurvey.co.uk/opendata

I am expecting my new eTrex 20 tomorrow when I'll be investigating the mapping.

So essentially do I save the map I want as the name above (gmapsupp.img)?? and pop it on the memory card and insert it into my eTrex?

Think this is the relevant link http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/products/os-opendata.html

Cheers Paul.

I have on my free CD a searchable list of placenames with their coordinates and the 1:25000?? Gazzetter type map, the same thing as you would get as say an AA Road Atlas of the UK.

The Vector map looks promising but I don't know if I'm capable of joining up the 10km by 10km blocks.

I have found through Google a couple of pdfs from auk but they weren't loading when I looked at them.  I'll have another look later, cheers.

Very useful - I was surprised when there wasn't a GPS board sticky post with that link in.
