For the gardeners amongst us, Beechgrove Garden is back (in England, the Scots have already had it) Sunday morning 9:30.

Not having a TV I'm somewhat behind what is available but.

No love for Deutschland since 83?

OK the last episode of 89 was a bit "clear the decks" but I'm surprised not to find more mention here.

Well I liked the three Deutschland series, although not so much the Africa bit in the middle one.

Watched them with my German partner and it had a lot of resonance with him, especially as he is currently working on a project with Robotron (it’s still in existence!)

Second season of American Gods. And god, that was turgid. Eight hours in which nothing much happened. The visuals are nice but it's clear they're treading water with the plot, meandering scenes and endless rambling exposition (it doesn't help that the lead, Shadow Moon, seems to be sleepwalking through it and is impressively dumb, his Dead Wife is far livelier and her and Mad Sweeney are the only bits worth watching). There's a third series, I won't bother. Shame really, the first season was very good.

Season two of The Boys has got to a literally more explosive start (she's not going to come back from that). And Butcher is back and he's still got the accent, cunts. Way-hey.

"The Mare of Easttown" on Sky/HBO.
This is extremely promising.

Very much enjoying the second season of The Boys (not sure why I left it so long). Definitely a million times better than the usual comic-book dirge.

The whale-based climax to last night's episode, oh god, I laughed so hard that I cried.

If people aren't watching this, you should be. Fuck that chunky-sweatered, grim-faced crime drama. Watch this, it's far more fun, and you never know when someone's head might explode.

It could be, the precise cause of the exploding head has been undisclosed. Of course, watching subsequent episodes, any time there's a quiet moment I think someone's head might explode. A lot of heads get pulled off, and the occasional face. As Amazon says before each episode, contains nudity, graphical sexual content, bad language, violence, and drug use (in the order that's likely to most offend the average American). It's like an ingredient list. It doesn't disappoint. Best swearing since Deadwood.

Best swearing since Deadwood.

That's all the recommendation I need. Cocksucker.

It doesn't have quite the same density of swears, but when Karl Urban growls his 'alright, you cunts...' with his brilliant mockney accent, it's my favourite swear ever. It's not so much the word, it's the delivery. Butcher is brilliant but you'd have reservations about his babysitting ability*.

There are some nice samples here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKFeRLlz380

*ETA: google 'the boys laser baby.' Diabolical. Also his profound advice to Homelander's son: don't be a cunt.

Got to the end of the current season of The Boys, still continuing my televisual lurve-fest for this. Had to scramble to check they're making a season three (they are, phew).

Very, very good, and some pitch-perfect satire of US culture (the active supervillain drill in schools, the focus group diversity scene, oh my, so many). That and the exploding heads. You won't forget that scene in a hurry. Oh and superhero porn.

If you have Amazon Prime, just watch it, OK? But not with the kids or your grandparents.

Ian Wrights documentary on domestic violence and its impact on children that was shown on the BBC last night.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Karl Urban's (New Zealander) cockney accent is a bit grating.

The guy who play's Homelander Antony Starr is also a Kiwi, and kind of dumps on Urban's accent skills from a great height.

Sorry, but no, Karl Urban's mockney accent is quite possibly the best thing to ever come out of New Zealand. He seems happy to have the piss taken out of him, there's a fair number of in-jokes in the script. I love it, it makes the swears even more special.

Anthony Starr's Homelander is awesome though, he's quite terrifying.

We've started watching Tehran again, having started it last year but got caught up in watching all the Line of Duty series that we'd not seen before. It's better this time round, and even more so because there aren't the broken LCD coloured bars running down the screen...
It is simpler than it looks.

Not tonight, but do try and find it. A Storyville from BBC4 “A German Life” or Goebbels Secretary. Astounding. Film from the Warsaw ghetto I’ve never seen before, amongst other extraordinary information.

Will do. The selections for Storyville seldom disappoint. I meant to recommend 'Collective: Unravelling a Scandal' a few weeks back, covering the aftermath of the 2015 Bucharest nightclub fire. Some deaths were caused, weeks and months after the fire, because of corrupt heads of hospitals, an evil manufacturer of disinfectant, and complicit politicians. All uncovered, with the help of whistleblowers, by the editor and team at a daily sports newspaper. (But I forgot).

+1 for this. I probably wouldn't have bothered, but MrsC recorded it. It's a period of history she's more into than I am. I'm glad she did.

I wasn't too sure if I'd continue with it after the first episode.
I'm glad I did.
