This is a thread to post test results for stoves.

Test conditions.

Raise 250ml of water from cool (ca 10 degrees) to boiling.

Outdoors but sheltered from the wind. It is hard to standardise for windy conditions.

Specify the stove used and the weight with and without fuel + container

Initial water nearer 0 degrees, wind shelter not that good, frost settling on ground.  I think in better conditions (especially once stove up to heat and just placing fresh pans above it) a better result could be got.

Three Grolsch cans converted via a Swis army knife having just drunk contentsMeths13g65g
(less than 50% fuel burned, so could have been lighter)
15 minutes from lighting to noticing boil :-[  (Was refitting a tyre, so replicating typical camping situation).   5 minutes to full ignition due to damaged can not pressuring, then between 7 and 10 minutes.

Stovefuelpacked weightweight+fuelboiling time
"penny" coke can stove,
MSR 0.8l ti
meths
20g stove
375g (2 pans, lid, potstand, lighter
priming tray, windshield, potlifter
potcosy)
375+220g fuel
   =595g
3min 50sec, water from fridge
20ml fuel
not enough left to get the 2nd pan
above lukewarm

packed weight is for full pan set - weights are 90g, 65g and 60g for lid/frypan, so I can cut it down by 150g if I take the small pan and a bit of foil for the lid.

Stove made from 2 coke cans using a stanley knife, small drill, and a whisky tumbler

It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Just knifed up two coke cans for a go at that stove - 4:30 to boil one cup in my kettle despite the stove being an utter abomination that took ten minutes.

Andy, was that "one cup" the 250ml?

I may need to build a new stove :-[ :(

Yup though it was indoors (it was cold and dark outside) so add a minute.

Interestingly my stove was a "fecking abomination" model made only with a gert knife - the jets were from all the leaky torn mangled gaps - so it really seems to be idiot-proof.

Came across this: http://www.chainsawmills.co.uk/stove.htm last night when researching chainsawmills (yeah... I know :-\) Haven't built one yet but I'm going to. Seems like an upmarket version of the cokecan special.
