Walking past the Bournville factory yesterday,  we noticed that there is only one footing ball pitch.  (Down from three in the winter).  The cricket square was roped off and being prepared.

First frogs in the garden pond today, presumably procreating.

I felt a bit guilty when my shadow fell across the amorous couple, whereupon they disengaged and dived to the bottom of the pond.

IIRC, a princess would have been more useful. I'm evidently not very good at being a princess  ::-)

It's been so cold lately that our daffodils still aren't out properly. The bulk of the heads are now bent over but the flowers are very reluctant to show - only about 30% I'd say. One warm sunny day will make a huge difference.

But - it's been very cold for March. Here are the temperatures for Jan, Feb and the first 16 days of March as measured by our weather station:

            MEAN  MEAN
 YR  MO   MAX   MIN   MEAN
-----------------------------------
2011 01    7.6   3.1   5.4
2011 02    9.6   5.2   7.3
2011 03    9.6   2.9   6.2

So a lot colder than Feb so far, and barely warmer than Jan.

The sun has come out and for the first time this year, when I got home the hall was so light that I thought I'd left the lights on when I went out this morning.

This makes me happy.  ;D

Several specimens of prunus in full flower.

There are still whole beds of daffodils without a single flower out, but the heads are all bent over.

Lots of frogspawn now. My brother, inveterate raiser of froglets, is coming for lunch and afterwards will take a bucket-full of spawn to his froggery.

A few of the daffodils in my windowboxes are in flower now. Last week I just had one snowdrop out. Spring is here.  ;D

On yesterday's ride I saw copious daffodils, lawnmowers (plural) and the first roadkill bumble bee of the season.  I reckon that makes it official.

Ooh you beat me to it by a few hours, a single Marsh marigold in flower in the wonderful Coed-y-Cerrig nature reserve in Monmouthshire.

A ladybird sitting on a spare bit of brake outer in the shed!  Perhaps it was trying to help with my fettling?
