The easy fail - fostering a dog
« on: 04 January, 2015, 07:02:34 pm »

Well we just survived the first fostering of a wonderful border collie, a four month old monster. Peli, without much twisting of my arm, talked me into being a foster. We signed up and got home checked by Pendle Dogs in Need and Aireworth Dogs in Need, both rescues in our area.

Sunday the 28th of Dec, we spotted a call out for a foster home for Otis. We said yes we can help, even before we saw the photos. He got dropped off on the 29th after a trip to the vet and some puking in the car.

It took him two-three days to open up and then his real character came out, and what a right old monster he is, said in a very endearing way. Tilley took some time to figure out who he was, but when he opened up there was no stopping them playing about. Never got mental, but we had to give them time-outs or else the house would fall down.

Peli did some clicker training and quick as a flash he picked it up. The new owners got some work to do but easy work if they keep on top and don't let him get bored. But that is what collies do and are and they got a few collies in their families so they know what they are in for.

So a week later we handed the little rascal over to them. We are going to miss him and the house is rather empty and quite quiet right now.

Here he is, or was: http://woofy.woollypigs.com/2014/12/otis-foster-dog/

Oh, I forgot: He figured out how open the child gate, which a few guest to the house had struggled with :)

And Max is coming to stay for a while this coming week : http://aireworthdogsinneed.co.uk/dogs-in-need/max-3/ I see a busy and fun year for us :)

We all miss the little pup, but feel good that we saved his life.

Well done! Good luck to Otis. And Max looks nice too.

Thanks Pluck. We're told Max is a gentle soul - a family pet but isn't walked. The kids just let him out into the street and he 'walks himself', with busy traffic around.  The family say they can't cope with him any more. Poor lad.

Poor Max. I hope he finds a god home too. I’ll refrain from posting what I think of his ex-owners.

We have a new foster dog seeking refuge. Gentle giant, Quinn. He is a 12 month lab x collie who ended up in the pound after he and his mum were abandoned, tied to railings in Bradford.

Pictures to follow I'm sure.

Oops! Been a bit tied up entertaining two dogs, one of which (ours!) is crazy. Quinn is doing really well. He had a meet today with his future family and the love was mutual, so he'll be off to his new home next Saturday - as long as his kennel cough has gone by then.

Woolly's doing the blog so I'm sure photos will follow *very* soon!

Meet Alfie, the closest to a fail yet, only been here three nights, but match Tilley's temperament very well, likes his cuddles and walks very well on lead. Some issues to iron out like his fear of the outside, the lead and the barking when very excited.

Nice!. We're talking about fostering and will probably start doing so once Hana has been spayed.

Jacob just be prepared that you might end up with two and there will be tears when a foster leaves.

Tilley is using Alfie as pillow and Alfie is using me as a pillow.

Not too sure, he just came back from the kitchen and Tilley, who was on my lap, growled at him.

Very nice! Good luck to Ruby. Great photos.

Astonishing that animal welfare in Romania, after 7 years in the EU, seems to be on a level with China.

Well, the day is almost upon us. Gorgeous Ruby goes off to his new home tomorrow night - just down the road, in Sutton-in-Craven, with a lovely family and their two dogs. I'm really going to miss the little chap.  :'(

I don't think we'll be fostering again for quite a while - it's hard to fit two dogs in the camper, for a start!
