The loudest ding-dong bell I've heard is on Joe notp's fixie. It's almost twice the diameter of a Lion but I don't know where he got it from. By far the most attention-grabbing bicycle bell I've ever heard was a tyre-driven device on a "Dutch"* bike, which sounded like an angry tram.

*It probably came from Germany originally, I saw and heard it on a CM in Poland.

My son needs to apply for a police certificate. They need a 'passport photo' and specify standard 45x45mm

You can upload a photo. They specify the format type - but not the resolution. Hmm. So, will any resolution be acceptable?

Small is fine, and I haven't got a lot of bar room* so that looks nice too.  Discreet, though - does that mean inaudible at 10 feet?

* nor yet barroom, should it come to that.

I know that they have to make sure they get accurate fault details, but how much ambiguity is there in the phrase 'The battery catch is broken allowing the battery to disconnect...'

If I have to explain it to anyone else I'm likely to get a little bit cross!

Just what, exactly, is the fault?

When I needed to provide one (for the same reason) they accepted a selfie, taken on my phone.

An estate agent that specialises in lettings to working professionals but only does viewings 9-5pm tues-fri and for 3hrs sat morning.

Erm, what part of 'working professionals' and 9-5pm do you think might be an issue?

I have a friend who runs a letting agency in York. She does evening viewings most days of the week and frequently on sat and sun.

That they can get away with it may be a sign of quite how fecked the Cambridge lettings market is; at this stage it's basically an outpost of the London property market.

It has spread everywhere. I've been out of touch.

About 4 years ago we rented a run-down 4 bedroom house in York for £850. Decoration was in poor condition and the kitchen was crummy, with 70s units. Going rate if let per room would have been £250.
It's been redecorated and new kitchen units put in. Let at £460 per room. None of the rooms are large.

The lazy feckers that don't do evening viewings also charge the highest fees of any agency I've yet contacted in Cambridge. It's just a bugger that they seem to have a monopoly on a bunch of the new properties that are reasonable.

I think I've found the nadir in property lettings in Cambridge

Sofa available in one bedroom flat

Some rooms were small (they must have assembled the bed in the room and getting the mattress in would have been an exercise in trans-dimensional geometry), but renting out a sofa?

Hmmm, eBay really doesn't like sellers does it!  Sold (in good faith) some Oakleys to what turned out to be a prfessional buyer "buyoakleys".  Some 10 days after sale I get a refund request, with detailed description as to why the frame was counterfeit, altho lens and case are genuine.  I make the refund. Silence.  I ask when I might get the goods back. Silence.  I follow up and get the following:

"Last week you refunded. I received the following message from eBay:

"The seller accepted your return of Oakley Radarlock Sunglasses White Frame, Low Light lens, Hard case. and refunded you GBP 38.90. It should be available in your PayPal account.
You don't need to return this item to the seller - you can keep the item. You can view details of this return on eBay."

You should have waited for eBay to prepare a prepaid return form. Either you ask eBay to do so now retrospectively, or you give me the return costs in advance."

So not only do I have to refund, eBay says he can keep them! Lesson learned.  Tho I'm almost more pissed off at the buyer for apparently being willing to keep the goods, notwithstanding the eBay message to him.

Glad I've shifted a load of stuff.

Now, to find a viable alternative to eBay methinks.

I'm getting tired of this accommodation chasing lark.

Sent many, many messages, emails to private landlords and letting agencies.
Private individuals have been most polite.
Only one out of 3 agencies have even responded. One agency offered 'skype tours' but doesn't respond to emails.

Latest rubbish was an advert that explicitly requested contact via email/messaging. So I sent a message with several simple questions. Two line response

I'm currently going through the same process with a camera lens I sold. Buyer complains instantly that the lens coating has been removed, WTF???, and asks for a refund. I accept the return and provide a postage label......silence for 6 days, then buyer prints return label and posts a parcel. I'm not there to inspect it and have refused a refund until I do. Apparently eBay refund the buyer and attempt to claim the money from me. I do have 30 days to dispute the return if the item is faulty, not the same or the buyer is making it all up and was overcome by eBay remorse.

If I make the refund myself, I've accepted the return and have no cause for complaint. If eBay make the refund I can dispute it.

It's tricky and I've spent a long time speaking to them on the phone about it.

My iron has died.  :'(   Those who know the off-the-bicycle me will appreciate the enormity of this disaster.

Is this 'tactical iron', discussed elsewhere on this esteemed forum, still the bee's knees?

Damn you, sir!  Mrs T42 just looked over my shoulder at your iron porn and suggested that if I was interested there was a full basket of washing waiting downstairs.

Washing the Brompton yesterday was a temptation too strong for the rain demons to resist - 10 mins to knock-off and it's absolutely peeing down >:(

Last weds 21st I placed an order for FTTC, and got an acknowledgment that my service would swap (same provider) on the 28th. I opted to get the “free” modem as well. Yesterday (26th) I get am email saying my modem will be despatched today, with a 3-5 day delivery. So that leaves me with no service for anything from 2 days to 4+, depending on the whim of RM. Just as well my existing modem is suitable for FTTC then.

As it is my birthday today, I was rather cheered by the large parcel that was left in the porch while I was out dog emptying.
Rip tear rip.
Completely forgot about the dog food order I had placed at the weekend.

In my head this anecdote ended with the dog sniggering like Muttley.

Happy birthday, anyway.

I've lost my wallet.

I suspect it was in the cheap jacket I binned last month.  It had no cash and one credit card [cancelled, not been used in ages] so I dont *really* about, except it's got my driving licence in it which has spoiled my plans to hire a Big Truck when I get to Texas tomorrow.... Uber isnt quite so much fun.

Hey ho, I'm off to Texas!   (happy birthday Basil!)
