Lightweight image editing software to 'level up' a picture
« on: 02 June, 2008, 09:55:12 am »
Hi,

I just want something lightweight that will let me free rotate a picture and then recrop it square (if that makes any sense). Just to fix some sloping horizons.

Oh and it's to go on a second machine, so I would rather it was free.

Thanks
Dan

An old <cough> trial <cough> copy of Paint Shop Pro 4 or 5?

I can't remember if Paint.Net has an interactive free rotate, but it's worth looking at. Nice little program.

There's www.picnik.com. Free, and has free rotate, cropping etc. Nice interface. You can call it direct from flickr.

It's web-based, so you have to upload each picture, so may not be ideal if you want to edit lots of pictures of have a slow connection.

Thanks.

I found which is a Photoshop plugin that works standalone and gives 10 free trial goes at it. Also corrects barrel distortion, vignetting etc. base on camera model and lens.

Irfanview

Free, crop/resample/resize/rotate etc for most formats.

Picassa (from google) has an excellent tool for this.

A simple slider rotates the image left or right in real time, and automatically zooms in to do the crop for you. It also shows a grid over the image to help line up verticals or horizontals.

Tiz free - try it.

Irfanview

Free, crop/resample/resize/rotate etc for most formats.

This one and   PhotoFiltre   (Google it - it's a French product but in English)  between them do it all for me

I second Andrew's vote for Irfanview. The Gimp does more than you need.
