He needs mega-bad luck to avoid winning - the bigger question is holding enough back to also win the French Race!

The interest will be in podium places, sprints, breakaways...
and all the other general shenanigans that make up a 3-week your!

Not good.

Today's stage is almost exactly an imperial ton (161km).

Quite exciting so far, even the so-called routine sprint stages haven't quite gone to script.

I noticed that the sport section of the Graun's international front page contained the same non-news article about football twice but made no mention of the Giro.

But yesterday's stage did get a mention on Radio4 this morning.

I've been watching it live on YT via a channel called Ciclismo Pleno. Might be pirated Eurosport - English commentary. Not very high res, though.

ETA: and it's gone. Reckon somebody howled about copyright.

Rats! I didn't even have time to give it a try. Oh well, back to text updates.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of crashes in this edition?

It's just you I think. 5 stages, two bonafide sprinty stages. The only thing going against that is that Pogaçar already has control of the GC so sprinters cannot acquire it. Which conversely makes a stage win all the more combative.

I've heard that during the first week of any Grand Tour there are more crashes than in later weeks. Whether that's true or not I don't know, but it seems reasonable: riders are always a bit edgy at first. Later on it usually settles down.
