Which cage for a fuel bottle?
« on: 25 October, 2015, 08:56:40 pm »
I’ve only had a couple of camping trips since going back to the Trangia and on each occasion have made do with putting the fuel bottle in a panier. I see that many on the forum use a bottle carrier plus strap under the down-tube and was wondering which bottle cage works for the Trangia fuel bottle as it won’t fit any of my current cages.

I used a Monkii cage V http://www.freeparable.com/monkiicagev (in combination with a http://www.decathlon.co.uk/300-universal-cycling-bottle-cage-mount-black-id_8339445.html on a fork where the bike didn't already have the mounting bosses).

I use a Bikebuddy Mk 3 ,  I've had it for years & it's very secure.

I did at one point modify a Topeak adjustable bottle cage to fit the 0.5l Trangia bottle properly, but as bottle cage mounts are at a premium on my tourer, I tend to just put it in a pannier.  Trangia fuel bottles seem pretty disinclined to leak (and I've had a crash where the top of the fuel bottle pinched the pannier material against the road, eroding a hole in the pannier, but without damaging the bottle).

We've got a whole thread about this: http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=29814

I use an Alpkit stem cell, the bottle fits in perfectly.

Thanks for all the ideas folks. I've decided to order the Monkii cage, a tad pricy certainly but very versatile.
