My car seems to know it's due a service.

The ABS light started coming on a couple weeks back, it's just started dripping oil in the last day or two, and the kwik fit guy today told me the brake discs/pads are coming up for replacement.

I'm expecting an unpleasant bill next week when it goes to the garage :(

Oil change isn't that bad, I quite like servicing cars.

I'm more worried about where it's coming from. The change is due to happen on Thursday as part of it's service anyway, but I don't like sealed systems that aren't sealed, and I'm hoping it's pretty trivial to track down.

Actually, I wonder if it's me being inept. I was checking the oil level a couple days ago and I don't think it was leaking then. Off to see if I left anything undone

Yep. The oil is leaking out because some dipstick didn't put the dipstick back in properly :-[

Well, at least it isn't broked

Similarly but with more spectacular results, not long ago I topped the oil from nearly minimum level to maximum & forgot to put the oil filler cap back on.

A combination of circumstances has meant that bobb and I have only seen each other twice this year, in February and April. It sucks, I miss him and I'm fed up.

Hell's teeth K. That's very rough.  Hope you get together soon.

I have destroyed my gunnera.   :(
I was going to post a picture of it on the appropriate thread, as this year it appeared to be growing bigger than ever before.  I was just waiting for the last leaf (do you call them leaves?) to develop.  Its stem was much thicher than the others, so I was expecting it to be fee-yooge.
This afternoon, I dropped half a tree onto it.  From a great height.

Bugger.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

This post was more amusing when I assumed gunnera was a sexually transmitted infection.

Local Boots (Berkhamsted) would not give me a free prescription because it was issued on Friday and I only crossed the old age divide yesterday.  Also wanted to charge me £7 for an over the counter ointment that was priced at £3.

Led to some ranting and threats to post stuff on Twitter.

A proper chemists up the road had no problem.

I know where I will go next time.

Why does Google's spell-checker know the word lumen, but does not consider lumens to be a correct plural?

Me: hi, I have a client who has a minuet bed and I need to order cotsides. They're in stock but it won’t let me do it
Stores: hang on, I’ll check
*tumbleweed*
Stores: yeah, you need to order cotsides for an Ergo and put in the notes you need minuet ones instead

It really didn't occur to me that the best way to order something from the stock would be to order something else and then write to say I wanted the other thing. What a fool I've been!

Me:  I was just wondering how things were shaping up in terms of an agenda and timetable?  My travel is booked (flying out $day morning, returning $+1day evening), but have held off sorting out accommodation and further logistics pending a clearer idea of plans.

Reply:  Bones of a schedule is initial meeting $day morning, followed by site visit. Further discussion $+1day morning, should be done by lunchtime $+1day.

Ummm, and that helps with logistics and digs, well - how, exactly?

I turned up at the blood donation centre in Brum without an appointment today and was dealt with and bled in <1 hour. It was my 50th donation (in the UK) and I got a card for my troubles. Apparently I'll also get a gold badge in the mail and an invitation to a big dinner for similar folk. Not really necessary, but it would be churlish not to accept.

Edit: this was supposed to be in the random things thread. No grumble intended!

Tea and biscuits, presumably?   :D

Seriously though, well done.

Blimey, it was a veritable smörgåsbord on offer today post-donation. Club biscuits, assorted fruit, chocolate biscuits, crisps, gluten-free options, etc. A far cry from 1979, when all that was on offer was a plate of garibaldis and nasty coffee. The coffee was still crap today, though.

I trust the dinner on offer will be a little more sumptuous.

Maybe the Latin pedant would say it's lumina and not understand units of light...

Post-ride coffee is a rip-off at club events here: homoeopathic in strength and a euro a cup.  Some clubs still follow tradition and offer it free pre-ride, but afterwards you're fair game.

The picture on mine anbaric television keeps falling off the screen, while the squeakers emit a vulgar electronic farting sound.  But...

It appears to be confined solely to the BRITONS' Broadcasting Corporation, and only to their not-HD channels.

Please to be stopping this unseemly behaviours.
