Installing new osm maps - windows problem?
« on: 08 April, 2012, 03:50:54 pm »
Trying to install new osm maps (Andy's) via usb cable to Etrex HCX. Win 7 crawls along at 430kb or thereabouts (20 min install) loads about half the map then decides that it is no longer attached to the device and provides error message, install stops. Tried this three times with three different maps same error arises. Doesnt matter if copying and pasting or sending to etc.

Put the mircro sd card directly into caddy and then a usb hub, system installs map straight away and very rapidly. Any ideas what is going on?

The HCx is USB 1.1 I think.  Your card reader will be USB 2.

Transferring a large file via 1.1 and having it stall is a known problem with USB 1.1 - nothing to do with the GPS, or the file, or even the OS really, its just a USB thing.  For large files, USB 2 works, 1.1 doesn't.
