Had a scare on Saturday when I arrived at the shop at the end of my road to buy a choccy bar as a starting control for a DIY200 and turned on my eTrex Vista to be confronted by... a blank screen. Quelle Horreur! Zut Alors, etc.
Went home and changed the batteries several times. Still nothing. Plugged in my pc. Working as normal. Hmmm. Googled around, found a post about batteries corroding battery contacts. Checked my GPS and one contact looked a bit tarnished. A quick rubdown with some sandpaper and 'hey presto', back to life. Scary stuff though.
So children, make sure you look after that little piece of sandpaper you have in your puncture kit.
