I've got a spot / ulcer /something irritating, right at the back of my mouth. Meh.

Didn't ride in to work on Tues, on account of it pissing rain at 5:00.
My next commuting day is Thurs.
And as of now ( Wed evening ), it's pissing it down.

Not a happy bunny.

Looks like tomorrow is a write-off.
Perhaps Friday...

Er, can't you just cycle in the rain?

Well, I might if it were a 10-mile commute.

But my commute is 40 miles each way, and I just won't do that if it's pissing rain.

Lame, I know.

Surely 40 miles in pissing rain is perfect Audax training?

Well, yes.
But then I get in trouble for 'Ungentlemanly Conduct'.

Plus I have a dislike of getting into wet kit for the ride home!

So much for $favourite_telco fixing a cross-jumpered DSL connection "within 24h", now it's "there should be an update by Friday evening".

...and I got a phone bill this morning...

And after moaning about the rain on Thurs, it turned out to be a fine day, and I didn't ride in.

So I rode in today and got a proper soaking.  ::-)

xdp; your consignment pre-alert system is CRAP! Last week's email arrived after the delivery to which it referred. One item was missing.

Saturday's email linked me to your online tracking; the item has been OUT FOR DELIVERY since 0714 on Saturday and has not arrived. Your phones are unattended so you are uncontactable.

GRRRRRRRRR!

Stoke Mandeville Hospital: it's good that you have a map of the hospital on your website, & it shows both the Florence Nightingale Hospice & the most convenient car parks. But wouldn't it be better to show 1) all the internal roads, & 2) the relationship of them to the outside world, so that anyone arriving has some idea of which bloody way to drive to get to where they're going?

Oddly enough, such a map exists, & is on the 'Joining instructions for Medical Students' letter, which has kindly been put online. Are medical students assumed to be less capable of navigating their way without instructions than visitors & patients?

Kids: absence makes the heart grow fonder does not apply when I pull out the sofa and find a year's worth of assorted junk for me to clean up. Do not ask where any of it went when you return, as it will be landfill.

Why is it almost impossible to find a concrete fence post which is 0.91m, 1.0m or 3 foot long????

I have found one supplier near Liverpool (but then they want £90 to deliever them) but nothing in the Midlands.

Wasted most of my lunchtime on Google.

Probably because -- once you've allowed a reasonable amount underground -- that's a pretty short fencepost, and demand for midget-proof fences is limited.

Quite. The fence I want to build will be only 2 foot high.

I am an idiot!

I have put off going out on the bike all day because I was awaiting a response back from a PM that I could go ahead on a build I need to do.  I had absolutely zero expectation of hearing back, but I hung around anyway, instead of going for a ride I tidied a bit of the garage and test fitted some parts to the tandem as well as swapping the rear wheel on the fixie.

Now it's chucking it down and it doesn't look like it is going to give up any time soon :(  I shall have to drown my sorrows in beer and chips (beer from the offy and chips for the chippy :( )

You riding to the offy & chippy, I take it?  Maybe a roundabout route is called for? ;)
