As I had a doctor’s appointment early this morning I actually had to get up and go out in public first thing, rather than simply heading to my luxury, executive garden shed. Blimey, it had been cold overnight so the roads etc were covered with ice.
So, yet another grumble about cars incoming. Firstly…yes, I know it’s icy but you do not have to run your car for about half an hour as one of my neighbours did to “warm it up.” I am sure setting off from “cold” when “cold” is zero degrees is hardly likely to hurt your car after all, this is the 21st Century so vehicles should be built to higher standards than they used to be (and I have proof it the 21st C in Stafford before anyone asks me to confirm that!) All that running your car does is put loads of poisons into the atmosphere. So much so, there was a low fog of pollutants the whole of my 2 mile walk given that there was no breeze.
Secondly…. The pollutants come from one of three type of vehicles in this rather middle class (for Stafford) area. Vehicles are either: “we need a big car to take a sick sheep to the vets.” “We need a car which is bigger than our neighbours because….” And finally: “We need a huge car to take our children the 250 yards to school as its not safe for them to walk given all the traffic around here.” When I am King, I am going to ban any cars larger than a Fiat 126.
Thirdly….if you are going to run your car for ages, spend at least a few minutes cleaning the ice off of it…. I saw countless “letter box” cars this morning!
Finally, and I have grumbled about this before….parking on pavements: STOP IT!!! Pavements are for people and not cars. It really irritates me as around here EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE has a drive which can fit at least a couple of cars.
