Poppy the Cockapoo!
« on: 25 May, 2010, 08:45:08 pm »
Yep, at the beginning of August (when I'm back from a month in Germany) our household will increase by another four canine feet. We're planning to have a Cockerpoo/Cockapoo/Spoodle (a cocker spaniel and poodle cross) to join Lucy the ageing Weimaraner. We plan to get a female puppy and, of course, to get her used to the Burley TailWagon from day 1 so she can go out on cycle trips with us.

I'll start looking for a specific puppy in a couple of weeks, at which point I shall post lots of photos of really cute little doggies!

So, the question is, which of these two should we have?

White and fawn one:

Golden one:

And here they are together:

Awwww, how cute! I couldn't choose between them. They're both lovely.

I'd really like another dog. I miss my English Springer. Thing is, it's got to be a Great Dane (blue or black) or nothing and I just don't have the space at the moment. One day...

They look so happy together it would be unfair to separate them  ::-)

No, definitely not both - just one of them. I'm veering towards the golden one, although the photos of that one aren't so good. It's a tricky choice though. I am planning to go and see them on Wednesday evening (they're in Basildon) to make a definitive choice, which is a bit tricky this early as they haven't even got their eyes open, but I'm off for a month in Germany in six days...

They're not very poodley are they?
Get the white/fawn one. Easier to dye later on.

From the photos I'd go white/fawn.

In real life, I'd go from how they make me feel.

Go with your guts.

I can't imagine what they will look like when they grow up :P

Just make sure you get them/it vaccinated when about 2 to 3 months old.

Oh and the first one to bite your shoes is the one to choose :D

I suppose the white/fawn one will look like this:

And the golden one like this:

although without the pink bow, of course.

In imagegoogling most of them seem to be white so the golden ones are more unusual - might be more interesting to have one of them then.

So we went to visit them today and here are some pics:

We've decided to go for the golden one, it was a little more lively although it's very early days for them. They were most sweet and mum was very friendly.

Well we're not having either now. The breeder has taken a deposit from someone else for 'our' puppy!

Some further investigation has turned up another decent litter, also in Basildon, and I've just had a conversation with the lady and reserved a puppy. She will be black with a few white marks (paws). I'll go and see her when I'm back in England on 1 August and she'll come home on 3rd August, which is while James is away sailing...

Here are the two puppies from which we can choose:

I think I'm going for the one on the right which seems to have a little white bib.

The email from the lady was slightly odd as she seemed to say they are 8 weeks and 4 days old now, whereas originally she said they are ready to go on 3 August (which would make them 6 weeks old now). I've emailed her back for clarification, not that it matters too much; in fact, if she gets a chance to house-train them beforehand, all the better!

Think that doggy will accessorise my Trice well?

The trouble with black pets is that they don't photograph well (although the above photo belies that!)

Talisker always seems to be a black silhouette in photographs, I have to artificially bump up the contrast to give him some texture!

Very cute though.
Actually, it is rocket science.

I think I got one decent photo of our black lab in the the seven years we had him, for precisely that reason. And the photo was taken in the boot of the car, bizarrely!

I'm looking forward to getting her but we need to do some extra fencing in the back garden and James is going away for a week's sailing the day after I return from Düsseldorf, which is also the day I will probably get the puppy, so it's going to be a mad rush!

Is that someone's knee in the above pic, AH? If so they look a bit older than 8 weeks to me.

Wow awesome, I have a chocolate cockapoo myself called 'Google'

Are you aware how totally bananas the poodle crosses are??  ;D
Google is not particularly intelligent LOL but he is very loving and does agility classes and learned from a young age to run next to my bike.

Congrats! Does she like the trailer?  ::-)

I'm glad we're getting another dog. Taking a tortoise for a walk is so dull, they don't fetch and it takes 'em two weeks not to fetch!  ;)
