Lionel Messi has scored his 86th goal of 2012 to surpass Gerd Mueller's record of 85 in 1972.

That is a bonkers amount of goals!

That's incredible.  An amazing achievement.  I'd not heard any coverage of that being in the offing.

A delight to watch. Maybe a few more in the last three matches he has.
It is simpler than it looks.

I've never seen anyone as good with a football.
I've never seen video of anyone as good with a football.
In my opinion he's the best ever.

He seems to play the game as if everyone else is in slow-motion.

He's just coming into his peak as well.

Oh yes...he doesn't fall over unnecessarily either.

Especially this.  He's just a great example, isn't he?

For a long time I didn't think Pele would ever be equalled, but now I've got to agree with the above. Outstanding in every way and a superb role model for anyone.

There is a Zambian who scored over 100 in a year in the seventies.  The Zambian FA want his exploits recognised by FIFA.  How much do you reckon FIFA will charge?

Make that 91 goals in 2012 and a 4th consecutive Ballon d'Or (another record).

Normally there is room for debate about the Ballon d'Or but I haven't heard any dissent about the decision to name him the world's greatest footballer for the 4th year in a row.
