android offline reader

I was using google currents until recently for reading various papers and blogs but they seem to have forcibly upgraded it to newstand or something, probably to monetise the whole thing and further their plans for world domination.

Can anyone suggest a good alternative?

Needs to be
android
usable off line - it's for a tablet used on wifi only - sometimes ok to use online but i also want to be able easily or semi-automatically download stuff for reading offline.
Needs to handle mainstream newspaper sites and blogs from oddballs, cycling and otherwise.

You don't say what version of droid you're using.  What I assume is the standard browser shipped with v4 (ICS) allows you to save pages for later reading and they're then available from the "saved pages" tab until you delete them.  Unfortunately there's no automagic downloading so may not be good enough for what you want.
