Ok, trying again. These from a walk in the woods, October this year. We ate the last of the brambles along the way, and jumped in all the puddles.

Making your kid's hair into funny shapes whilst they are still too young to do anything about it, is one of the pleasures of parenthood! :)

One of these tiny figures is MissR, aged just 16, heading off at 5am with four fellow explorers to do a 40 mile hike over the North Yorkshire Moors a few weeks back. It was a mixture of uplifting (she made it all the way with a smile on her face) and terrifying (she then visited two hospitals in the middle of the night). Makes you realise how precious offspring are, even as teenagers!

This is as big as I could get the snowman before intense boredom set in (in me, not him ;D). Wrong kind of snow etc... Snail shells for eyes (*cough* I knew they'd come in handy) and not-quite-dead anemones for arms. Perfect.

My sister opened a present for her youngest (10 months) at Xmas, from a family friend, couldn't speak for laughing for a while. It was an Andy Pandy all-in-one, blue and white stripes, frilled cuffs with ribbon ties, and very, very, very uncool. Not like that one.
The thing is, it looks pretty big - by the time it fits, he'll be old enough to be embarrassed about it.
That's quite a stare he's got - what my brother in law describes as looking right onto your soul.

I like the discombobulated foot in the last one, it's like a surreal spot the ball contest.. ;D.
Is that the ELC rocket? I was looking at them today and wondering if my sister would forgive me if I got one for Oli's un-baptism* present. I settled on felt tips and a colouring book in the end, as a bit safer, given Oli's excitable tendencies.
*He's not being excommunicated, it's Max's baptism this weekend, but I felt presents should be fairly distributed.
-
Looks like fun.
Can I play? :D

Arch, it's your JOB, as an auntie, to buy mildly inappropriate presents. And yes, it is the ELC one, and it's fab ;)

Yes, I feel I've failed on that one. And no time to shop again now before I go. Next time.

Yes, of course, there's a birthday coming up in August, or I may fit in a visit before then.
I can't remember where I heard it, but for a term to cover nieces and nephews, I like Niblings.

Oh, and I wonder if we ought to think about heading back to the climbing club some time soon. I don't think he did badly, 'specially since he was wearing aldi's finest something-resembling-hiking-boots that really aren't very appropriate for climbing!

(yes, it was mildly scary to see him up there!)
-
Here's scary...
This is Junior #1 on the Lake Chutes, an EX ( Extrme Terrain ) Double-black diamond run in Breckenridge, Co.
He's 12 at the time I filmed this ( last year ).
Normally, when I photo or film ski footage, you don't get any sense of steepness.
You do here.
All the action is in the first 10 seconds or so.
You need to look at him as he traverses over and sizes up the first ( committing ) turn.
It's worth pausing it and looking at it at this point.
He can reach out and touch the wall with his hand.
Observe the first turn: look at the rate he drops till he gets his edges set as he completes the turn, and drops out of view.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcegfjNmv18
That's it, I'm afraid.
My camera-work is total crap, because I can't see the screen in the bright sun-light, so I'm just pointing it in the general direction.
It's not worth viewing beyond when he drops out-of-sight.
To those of you who have never tried such stuff, I can tell you this is *very* steep, at 50 degrees, and very committing.
Here's the sign at the top of the hike you need to make to get there:

All by Max Martin. Aged 2.
(It's older brother Oli's digi camera really, and he's pretty competent with it. In fact Max often gets it right, but these are funnier!)

"Finger" would make a nice wallpaper for your PC desktop, and "Munch Mummy" wouldn't be out of place in the National Portrait Gallery! I look forward to Max's debut art photography book.

I must say that Munch Mummy is very good.
-
Although I'm pretty sure that someone will come along and have something rude to say about the title 'muNch mummy'; afterall this is YACF.
-
We do indeed have some rude mother munchers on YACF.

WW, it's been 12 years since I was there, but is's still moving to see such pix.
We too had a bit of a sticky time getting out of the hospital, so I know where you are.
Best of luck for the future.
It only gets harder...

That or he's just stubbed his toe on an anchor ;)
Fab photo and long may the enjoyment of pottering around on water last.
Note to self: have lived in Brum far too long - must move back to the coast...

More miles of canal than Venice in Brum, apparently...
From me, not a pic of a kid, but by one. I think it has undertones of Clarice Cliff myself:

I don't know if he used the same technique, but during the holiday I saw Oli drawing a volcano by taking a pen in each hand and drawing mirror images for each side of the cone and the lava spewing out of the top - equally controlled. I wonder if he'll be ambidextrous, or if that control will disappear as he becomes more used to writing and using one hand.

Excited!

Once she was actually out and about, she fell asleep quite rapidly!
-
That's the way it's supposed to work :)
-
You know the thing where parents put their children in idling cars so they fall asleep... (Probably not an urban legend, given the way my parents would unload the car *before* turning the engine off on return from a long trip specifically so they could get the faffing done before my brother woke up and started screaming.) Who's done the bicycle version? Anyone got a child seat on their turbo trainer bike? :D
-
Cool! Nye usually falls asleep pretty fast too. :) He does get left in the trailer outside the back door fairly frequently :D.

Ha ha! My son never fell asleep in the child seat - though he did in the car - he was too excited, laughing at the puddles we splashed through, catching invisible things in the wind and pushing me up hills! I expect a turbo trainer would have had him pretty bored though... We might both have fallen asleep!

Blimey they grow up fast (compare to pic at top of page just 3 years ago).

Having served the apprenticeship of a balance bike (probably too long an apprenticeship to be honest) this is our grand daughter within minutes of trying pedals for the first time.
And a few minutes after that:
https://www.facebook.com/100009276557793/videos/1785158198470048/
All this was immediately after I had collected her from school, so from about 3.30 onwards this afternoon. She was still out riding at about 5pm and I could see her about 100 yards ahead of me. I heard her shout something but couldn't pick up what, but there was a car had stopped and she was talking to the occupants, who just happened to be her mum and dad. They watched in utter amazement as she cycled 200 yards or so home without a problem. Smug granddad!
-
Lovely!
Great to see how comfortably and quickly she's done this!
Maybe there's something to be said for waiting till they're really ready. ISTR threads passim about younger smalls unable/unwilling to ride on two wheels. Some are ready at half that age; some aren't...
-
Coolio !!
-
Brilliant
