Cyclist flies halfway across the world (and back presumably) to spend less than a minute on a bike:-

It's further from Holland - or Hoogland!

(I still think the point is worth considering, though)

If he’d spent more than a minute it’d have been even crazier.

I'm not sure it's any crazier than flying the same distance for three weeks of rugby, or any other sport, or a band on tour, or a holiday.
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

Peak human athletic performance is almost never (best not be absolute) compatible with said individuals having a low carbon footprint. (If that's how you measure "good")

PS
As it's only about a quarter of the way around the world, is it only half as bad as half way around the world?

One of my daughters rowed (actually "sculled") in the Head of the Charles River Regatta in Boston, USA last week - just 19 minutes on the water!   At least she didn't have to take her own boat.

There may be more in that statement than you intended!

Less than 5 tons of CO2 for such a round trip, from Netherlands to Mexico.

In the grand scheme of things, not a massive amount. Sure if he was doing it every week, that's an issue...
