let's just face it, you've got the draw, well done

EDIT I thought that was 76-1 first innnings, not as now 28-0 second innings

Come on Zummerzet!

EDIT EDIT - Well done Essex, consistency wins out

Hard luck Somerset, the rain prevented you from building on the 62 run lead and setting a realistic chase. Forfeiting the second innings to set any target was sporting to say the least, Unfortunately Essex batted out the draw to take the title. Have to say last week at Hampshire really hurt your chances going into such a late September match.

Congratulations Essex on winning the county championship.

Yes, rain ruined what could have been a fascinating fixture. Well done to van der Merwe: top scorer with 60 in the Somerset innings batting at number 10 (the difference between the sides at the half-way point) and took 4 wickets in the Essex first innings.

Yes, congratulations to Essex.  Hard lines for Somerset, nevertheless, who seem to have paid the price for having players who are good enough to play at international level.  I'm a Durham supporter and we have missed one Ben Stokes for the whole season and have missed promotion.  That is also partly because our top bowler, Mark Wood, is made of glass!  We also had the quirk of having the sandpaperer-poursuivant Bancroft do well for us at the beginning of the season before being recalled to help Australia allow England to draw the Ashes!  Strange but lovely game!

Somerset docked 12 points at the start of next season for that poor pitch against Essex:-

England will probably collapse dismally, or go all the way and set new records...  I wonder which one?   ;D
