PICK also appears to be on Freesat.

Lose the beard, Brad - the drag could make all the difference.
It was a day like any other in Ireland, only it wasn't raining

That's a Sky channel, though, isn't it? I should imagine it'll be available on the YouTube UCIchannel

I don't know about the UCI Channel, but the Sky Channel on YouTube and the Sky website itself are providing live coverage.

How long's it on for  :P

(Pick were showing a Bradley Wiggins documentary - "A year in yellow" - the other day.  I saw it listed and wondered why.   This scheduling explains it.)

I am strangely hyped for Wiggo's attempt.  Normally I don't mind, but there is something about his attempt that's caught my imagination.

D. Telegraph has a podcast with Wiggins/Dowsett/Boardman/Obree. Wiggins v.up for doing this record - wants to finish 'completely spent'.

Interesting that the attempt is timed to start at 6:30pm, when all the other recent ones have started on the hour. Clearly thinking about the TV scheduling implications there.

Air pressure now looks likely to be way more than 1030hPa, which is 750-1000m of handicap over a low-pressure day.
Cant he just race in a vacuum* chamber? Or have we found the limits of M**doch's pockets?!?

Wow.  I know air pressure makes a difference, but I had not appreciated it could be that significant. Incredible.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Say the air pressure is 1035 mbar for his attempt.  A low pressure system over the UK could easily be 50 mbar lower than that, i.e. a 5% difference.  Power lost to drag is linear with air pressure, so if this were a flat TT where virtually all power goes into overcoming drag, we'd expect to see a 5% difference, which at 50 kph means going 2.5 km slower.  For an hour record in a velodrome, power lost will mostly be split between overcoming air resistance and accelerating himself round the corners - I don't know the split, but if it's a portion of a 2.5 km pie, 1 km sounds eminently feasible.

Surely with the airlock doors at the Olympic velodrome they can just get a good vacuum pump in there.
It is simpler than it looks.

I am told that there is a network of tunnels under Norwich which might be partially evacuated for record attempts though as they're only about 3' in diameter they'd only be of use to the Dark Side siblinghood.

Where do I "tune in" for the best commentary[1]? I've found Pick TV on the idiot box and the Telegraph has a commentary.

[1] Surely everyone grew up watching test matches on the TV but listening to the commentary on the wireless. Everyone apart from my wife - who thought it bizarre.

UCI Youtube isn't working in East London

"The uploader has not made this video available in your country. Sorry about that."

Thanks UCI.

(I do have it on Pick, but was hoping UCI had some timings.)

Listening to the Telegraph, I at least heard the start! The TV was on an ad break when Wiggo got an early start.

No average speed so time for the spreadsheet to quickly calculate the average speed.

UCI feed is working in this bit of East London, but I'm running 'YouTube Unblocker' on FF.

I'm kinda surprised at his gearing: 58-18;  I had expected something a bit higher.
