Bought any camping gear today?

A pair of PlanetX 5.5L drybags with fork mounting kits.

I was just looking at those. They are a a lot cheaper than the Gorilla cage and bags.

Would be handy for a bit of bikepacking, along with a big handlebar bag.

That's what I was thinking. I could 3D print something similar but it's a looooooong print job. And I have uncertainties about the robustness of said prints. I really don't want anything jumping ship around the front wheel.

For £36 for the pair vs £26 for a single I thought I'd take a punt.

I did however print a wee container to take a few teabags with me.

The mounting system looks more like a Salsa Anything cage than Gorilla mounts, which leave only cleats on the fork – the cage removes completely, but they're cheaper than than the Gorilla cage and bag, and also cheaper than the Salsa cage without a bag.  If I didn't already have Gorillas, I'd be tempted.

They've arrived and seem pretty good, I might have to roll my sleeping bag a little differently to get enough rolls on the closure but it fits. I feel like the bottom of the "cage" could do with a slightly larger foot but I'll see how I go, I can always make something to attach later.

Haven't fitted them to the bike yet as it's rather mucky so I ought to clean it first. That's a job for tomorrow.

You can always get poles separately (not trekking poles, just aluminium tent poles of suitable length). But it sounds like it might be a bit meshy for most BRITISH WEATHER.

I really should not read these threads. Purchased a Ticktwister, on the basis that when you need one, you need one. Also discovered one of my touring bottles has self destructed, dispersing cooking oil into a dry bag. Ho hum.

Nice tent - except for pole placement.    OK for race whippets but not for lardarses like me.  One advantage of the Alpkit Polestar is that the poles are at the end - it's also lighter, got a higher HH and half the price!

No, a few things are made in the UK, but not £140 tents, just think about it.
Be good if it was, all the UK produced stuff comes with a 25 year warranty.

Everything I've ever bought from Alpkit has been excellent quality. You can buy something cheaper. It probably won't last anywhere near as long. This tent looks quite clever.
