Bad news: drove to work today as the weather was unspeakably foul this morning.
Good news: I can see clear blue sky from my window, so screw it, I'm going out for a ride tonight (first time out for 5 days - could be interesting)

Bad news: I've got to tell my supervisor how monumentally stupid I've been for so long, to fuck up this bit of processing that has propagated to a published conference paper and to a journal article currently in review.
Good news: Now that it's fixed, it makes my results better!

Bad news: No, that good idea I had for a new technique does not work.
Good news: It fails in an interesting way, that I can write about.  More thesis for me please   This includes inventing yet another technique for doing the same thing.

Bad news: Technique C would work, but would take twice the time to run as does our current teqhnique.
Good news: Yet more thesis for me

Good news: My new retrotastic string and leather mitts (fake leather but real string - at least, I think it's real string!) have proved comfy on a decent length ride. As well as being cheap and looking (fairly) good.

Bad news: They left fake-leather-palm dust all over the lever hoods.

My daughter has been to the open evenings of her school's 6th form and a local college. She is now absolutely adamant that she wants to do a childcare course alongside English Language and Literature A' levels, and possible philosophy (which she cannot even pronounce!).

The good news is that she is massively enthusiastic about it all and wanting to throw herself into it.
The bad news is she will need to work as an in-house nanny for part of the childcare course and so she has told me that since she wants to do this living at home I will have to produce a new sprog for her to look after, although it must not be born in the next 12 months so it will be the correct age at the time she needs to care for it. I pointed out to her that I am nearly 42, but she seemed unconcerned and said maybe I could adopt one  ;D

Simonp knows nothing of her plans as yet .....

Well I guess if announced that when my son came back from his second term at uni then the timing of teh sprog would suit the daughter's childcare course perfectly

Good news. CAA got the paper work to me.
Bad news. Not in time to start the tour.
Good news. Days off :)
Bad news. Early start with an airline to Portugal to meet the aircraft.
Good news. Flying with a good bloke and it would be a good day out.
Bad news. Something's not working.
Good news. It's not "that" important.
Bad news. Oh yes it is, can't fly in icing (cold) conditions.
Bad news. Flight's off.
Good news. Go to hotel.
Bad news. Are you still at the aeroplane, we may need you to go south (warmer).
Good news. Nope, go to hotel.

Bad news: Climbing the North Downs from cold.

Could be worse. I was on a train where a kid was playing a Thomas the Tank engine video on an Iphone, only it was all.... American! The horror!

why oh why do the grown ups not tell their charges that they should turn off the sound in trains etc., or wear earphones.

Rude isn't it? Had a child on a train (with a parent) a while ago, doing his maths homework which is all well and good but using the phone as a calculator without the keypad tones being turned off.

So very annoying.

Bad - belated birthday dinner is off cos there's a sniffly penguin in the house
Good - have to make do with dirty pizza instead
