I should be OK for this (with the usual limitations of starting from Witham station at 19:15 ish or Chelmsford at 19:00ish).

Unless TOKaMaK has a different cunning plan,  I did half wonder if we could engineer a ride to end somewhere that would be possible for bobb could reach on foot/by bus etc., if he fancied a meet-up with us?  Not sure where would work for that though.

Otherwise, I'm open for anything really.  30-40 miles would be welcome.  I seem to have signed up for a 200km on sunday when my longest ride so far this year has probably been the FYBO camping trip.

^^^  I have no problem with getting the train to Chelmsford and meeting you there.  We can then cycle home via pubs and scenery.  I can plot a route if you want.

Meeting up with bobb would be cool.

EDIT: just had a peek at one of my many OS maps.  It looks like Regional Route 50 could well be our friend.  It loops back past chief's house so he won't need his missus to come and pick him up  ;D  :-*

In the absence of another plan I have put together a 35.5 mile route CLICKY

I haven't identified a pub but I thought be could track one down on the road.  I will be wanting my tea so lets hope we can find one with decent food.

Any thoughts?

At about 24 miles, we'd be very close to the Compasses, but it will probably be getting on a bit by then (might be pushing it for food?  I'n not sure what time they stop their Huffers).

We'll be practically riding past the Leather Bottle in Blackmore, but that'll be at 7.5 miles or so  It does do food, but I think the food side is more "restaurant" like.

Pleshey looks to be in the the right place... not sure if the Leather Bottle there is still open (I know one of the pubs in Pleshey closed down) or if it does food, though.

Oooh... I just realised ... we go past two "Leather Bottles""!  It'd be rude not to, surely!  :demon:

The White Something-or-other at Pleshey stops serving at 9pm so we might not make it in time.  Probably best to eat at the Leather Bottle in Blackmore.  What do you think?

I'm not sure which of the pubs in Pleshey is still open - chief might know ... I thought that either the White Horse or the Leather Bottle had closed down, but could be mistaken.

If we manage to set off by 7 from Chelmsford, we should be in Pleshey before 9, but it would mean not stopping at the Leather Bottle in Blackmore which would be a shame.  I think the Leather Bottle (Blackmore) does only do food in their restaurant end.  Sounds like nice stuff though: The Leather Bottle Bar & Restaurant located in Blackmore village, Essex.

We're also not going to be a million miles away from the Walnut Tree (Broads Green) on your route, but probably touch and go for getting there before 9.

We need our local native guide (chief) to tootle along and dispense some advice :)

It was the White Horse in Pleshey I phoned.

I don't mind which we go for but I shall do lots and lots of face pulling if we fly past The Leather Bottle in Blackmore and then get to the White Horse too late for my tea.

Let's eat in Blackmore then, assuming they let sweaty lycra-loutsgentlemen of our calibre into their restaurant.

True but I'm aiming for long streak of piss shape.  Round and panting isn't good.

But if you are aiming to be a racing-snake, you'll need to replace that hunk'o'steel'n'leather with a titanium-railed carbon-fibre Fi'zik.  Can't have a saddle that weighs more than the rider.

^^^ It's a training aid  ;D

By the way, I've cut out an article from Cycling Plus about the Whiskey Trail.  The chap in the photos has a top like yours.

What news on the Ride Leader thing?  I've been exchanging e-mails with Essex County Council and they are keen to have you  :o

Sounds like a version of the article that was in the Scotch Malt Whisky Society's "Unfiltered" magazine an issue or two back.

@19:00, the Beeb/Met-office reckon 11C, Sunny intervals.  Sunset at 19:53.  ;D :thumbsup:

8 miles or so from CHM to Blackmore, so I may even leave my arm/leg-warmers off until after dinner.  Hopefully won't even have to switch my lights on (the dynamo ones stay on anyway).
