Do I need a new cog?
« on: 23 March, 2009, 05:01:28 pm »
I changed the chain on the fixed recently because the old one had stretched loads. T'was a Wippermann 1G8 that was in no danger of breaking, though some links had got stiff, but I'm beginning to wonder if I'd have been better leaving it be.

You could see on the chainring that it was sitting with the teeth in the moddle of the links at the very front, but top and bottom gradually moved upwards on each tooth.

So off it came, on goes the new chain, which makes a god awful racket on the cog whenever any pressure is put through it. The cog's teeth are pretty shark-finned, not sure if this it what will be causing it. Should I just bite the bullt and replace the cog?
