What sprocket can be used on single speed free hub
« on: 17 August, 2010, 04:57:46 pm »
I have one of these.

Mountain bike components and mountain bikes by BETD / Goldtec

I am about to change the sprocket for the first time.

I assume I can use any replacement single sprocket excluding start and finish sprockets from a shimano type cassette.  Is this true or will I need to get something special?

It looks as if any Shimano-pattern sprocket will fit, but wider shouldered single speed specific versions would probably work better. These also usually have "sharper" teeth and no ramps (which are there to aid shifting on a cassette).

Usually a fair choice on ebay.

I just break up cheap cassettes - but I'm mean.
