Tandem commuting, certainly a minority activity, but done today.

I wonder whether it'll be worth asking if they could make the bike sheds a trifle deeper...

Pah! Been doing it for ages.

OK then, not for ages, but I've picked up my chum Cat Head on the way to work on both a tandem trike and the Pino (not on the same day obv.) a few times over the past 5 years.

For someone who goes to the gym, he doesn't half groan a lot going up hill.

So were you at Kathy's office or she at yours?

"overhaul" it, or you can ride it.  (Jerome K Jerome)

When we tandem commuted the sillybuggers was not the commute, but the last mile of the commute after the passenger had been dropped off.

I'm in Kathy's office this week. There is talk I may be able to move back in here again at some time in the future, so this may become a more regular occurrence.

When I lived in Cheltenham, there was a couple who I saw a few times, who had two tandems, both with kiddy cranks, and I very occasionally saw both of them with kids on the back, but more often one of them, who I assume had just dumped a kid at school before going to work.

There's a woman I've seen a few times around Queenstown Road in Battersea, who seems to be doing much the same.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Indeed, with all the lovely lighter evenings I've been doing the school run, and the trip to guides etc. whenever I'm not traipsing round the country at work.

Sigurd the tandem has now done some 135 miles since MiniQ and I took delivery at the back end of January; not much - only about 10 miles a week.  But 100 of those miles are avoided car journeys, saving some 25kg of CO2 so far.  We've also had more exercise and mostly avoided the evils of Tesco by shopping locally.  Plus, we did 44mph coming off the Chilterns last weekend. MiniQ nearly wet herself with excitement.

Makes me feel all virtuous :-)

We've now started using our new one for the preschool run:

(I'll be as bad as GruB soon with this....)

Right now, we tandem to school in the morning, then I come back by the house and switch from tandem to road bike. In the fall, when Anders starts kindergarten near my office, I'll do the whole loop on the tandem.
