choc ice and chips

Possibly the wrong bit of the forum, but does anybody remember the 1980s advert where the dad feeds the kids choc ice and chips whilst the mum is in hospital?

MrsH and I are trying to remember what it was advertising. A quick google suggests Bejam, but we are both reasonably sure that wasn't it (we didn't have Bejam in our area, the first time I heard of them was when I went off to Uni).
I thought it a food company, like (but probably not) Birds Eye.

I still remember that advert as Bejam.

Thinking about it, they'd never get away with airing it nowadays
with the tighter controls.

Yes, googling got Bejam for me too - but I'm still not sure it's correct as neither of us had Bejams in the areas we grew up in (Bejam being primarily a southern chain IIRC).

Perhaps it was used for a different brand name up north? Or I could just have a poor memory.

I just about remember the advert, but I don't remember it as Bejams either!

It must have been a different shop name up north,

I wondered whatever did happen to Bejam.

Ahh, so that's where they went...

Bejam had bought the rump of the Victor Value chain of supermarkets from Tesco in 1986. In 1989, Bejam was bought by its rival Iceland, despite still being a success and being three times bigger than Iceland. The stores were rebranded to carry the "Iceland" name, and are still trading as such today.
