Llandysul FC
« on: 28 December, 2016, 07:02:29 pm »
Well I suppose it couldn't last for ever.  Up until last week Llandysul had a perfect record in the Ceredigion League One.  12 games 36 points.
This week they were (apparently) lucky to get a 3-3 draw at Lampeter Town.
So 13 games and only 37 points.  ;)

I've no idea which league they would be eligible to be promoted to if when they win the league, although as they play on the village rec, I doubt they'd pass any new league ground requirements so probably won't be going anywhere.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

An excellent effort so far. Long may it last.

The league they are in is at Level 5 of the Welsh system and promotes to the Spar Mid Wales League division 2 which will bring the likes of Builth Wells and Newbridge on Wye to town.  For more information on the Welsh non league system (and indeed those in England and Scotland), see the excellent Tony's Non League Forum.

As to ground grading requirements, for Division 2 of the Spar Mid Wales League, they look very much like those for the Staffordshire County Senior league were I watch most of my football in that the pitch needs to be roped off and there needs to be changing rooms for both sides and the ref. More details at http://midwalesleague.pitchero.com/articles/ground-criteria-182?page=1

Much more is required when moving up to Division 1 of the Mid Wales league. I have never understood why small clubs need seated grandstands etc. As far as I am concerned, somewhere to get a drink, to park my car/bike and a loo is all I need when watching a match.... oh and two teams and three officials!  ;D

Thanks Ian.   This explains why a sort of one bar fence is beginning to appear on both sides of the pitch.   Looks like they're going for it.

Was discussing this in the pub last night.  Apparently they don't want to join the Mid Wales League due to the amount of travelling it would involve.
Llandysul is right on the southern border of Ceredigion and the village has always identified with West Wales.  Its pitch is by the river and a bad miss at goal could end up in Carmarthenshire on the other side.  (The cricket club regularly hit 6s out of the county)
What they would really like is for Carmarthenshire, Pembrokshire and South Ceredigion to form a "Premier" Division from a selection of the best clubs from their respective first divisions.  This is unlikely to happen though.  The other leagues have plenty of good sides and are happy the way they are.  It is only Llandysul that would really benefit from this supply of decent opposition.

Personally, I think they should apply to play in the Carmarthen league.  They're only a few yards short.  And there is precedence.   Isn't there an English club playing in the Scottish league?  And there are several Welsh clubs playing in the English league.

I think if Llandysul win today, they win the league.   We're pottering in the garden and just heard a big cheer.  Think I may wander down to the park to watch the second half.

All UK involvement in European football ends with Brexit. Did no one tell you?

Well, as well as their other success, they are currently playing in the final of the J. Emrys Morgan Cup

Ah.  You've rumbled the secret of their success.
As a lightning quick striker, I actually scored every single one of their goals.  I'm also an astonishingly good goal keeper and so play both roles.  This obviously involves a lot of sprinting from one end of the pitch to the other.  The only reason that any goal was scored against us was because one of our players got in my way on my return to the box.

When I first had a trial for them, the manager told me that he would let me start the first half.
"Then I'll pull you off at halftime", he said.
"Crikey", I said, "At my last club we just got half an orange."
