How many mugs have you got?
« on: 12 August, 2018, 11:06:33 am »
I’ve just counted 42 in our kitchen (after throwing away the two we agreed we don’t like).
That’s between the three of us that actually use them.

14 each.

Blimey.

I'm not allowed to buy any more mugs.  :(
It is simpler than it looks.

Too many.

Six on each mug tree, several stacked in the crockery cupboard, multiple unused Audax mugs, souvenir photo mugs, birthday gifts...

Far too many at home.

At work, just this one from Iceland...

Translated, it says: I have no idea what it says on this mug!

I'd like more pint mugs and fewer half-pint mugs really.
⅓ pint mugs are a waste of space.

Finding decent big mugs is becoming difficult.

David bought me a big mug from Sports Direct last year. It's very heavy.

I don’t really like having a lot of mugs, but many of them are presents from people I love.

I might issue a ‘no more mugs, please’ proclamation.

We have a number of manky brown-stained mugs that barakta drinks tea out of, a smaller number (3 or 4?) of clean ones that barakta is explicitly banned from drinking tea out of, and one with a b0rked handle that I use for measuring rice and standing implements in while cooking.  When barakta goes away, the washing-up fairy catches up and the mugs don't all fit in the cupboard properly.

Apparently we have 23 in everyday use, in addition to 3 styles of cup. There's also the camping mugs and the emergency mugs. There's no fear of running out of tea drinking vessels in this household of 2.

not enough.

While there are copious mugs in the household, I seem to restrict myself to three in the house plus my thermos mug and my camping mug.

My favourite mug developed a chip and now holds pencils in my office.

I’ve got 4 or 5 on my desk at work which will be coming home in a couple of weeks, though I doubt i’ll be allowed to add them tho the collection on the dresser, even at the ‘tradesmen mugs end’ we have twelve in use for the two of us and are this often reduced to using the big tea cups when the dish washer hasn’t been on but we only really drink tea out of those because coffee is usually espresso. Then we have a small collection of mugs for tradesmen1, for no other reason than we don’t mind if they get broken, and some smaller mugs for visitors who prefer smaller measures and a couple that are used for measuring when cooking.

1. I use these myself when I’m DIYing.

Countless....... the one that soldiers on with a handle that refuses to break is a promo item from IKEA in 1999 ... printed on it is a message offering a free tea or coffee every time you shop at IKEA and take the mug with you in 2000.

... oh, and I have 7 on my desk holding pens, glue, scissors, small tools and other stuff.

Coffee is consumed only from cups (and saucers) that are stored to keep warm on the top of the "industrial, plumbed-in" espresso machine (in 3 sizes!)

Too. Many. To. Count.  :hand:

Coincidentally we're on a little jaunt to Yeovilton and, tomorrow, Treacle Mine Rd. Guess what we just got from the frigging gift shop...

Two more than I had on Saturday, because the lid of my coffee travel mug has gone missing and the tea travel mug is manky inside beyond a) the dreams of the most rabid mank fans and b) any cleaning product made of Man.

At a guess, 25-30, which is rather more than a household of two needs - especially since we hardly ever have enough visitors to need more than half a dozen at a time.

We seem to keep acquiring new ones too, although we keep a cap on numbers through judicious breakage - unfortunately, it always seems to be the mugs I actually like that get broken. Most recently, I knocked something off a shelf that landed on my lovely Ladybird Books 'The Story of Football' mug, putting a big crack through it that renders it useless. Pah! Not sure of the capacity of that mug but it was over a pint. I could get a replacement off ebay but it wouldn't be the same.

We also have some very nice Anta tartan stoneware mugs. I often feel like I ought to get rid of all the others and just keep those ones, but they're very expensive to replace when they get broken.

Hundreds of them. Same with glasses, plates etc. They just accumulate. Once, many years ago, a kitchen cabinet filled with our glasses fell off the wall during the night which (a) woke us up and (b) pressed a temporary reset on our glassware accumulation.

A lot.  Including a set of 4 Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine mugs (first four albums) and a Viz Roger Mellie mug with a fairly innocuous picture but signed "All the fucking best!".

Took most of mine to BHF a couple of years ago. Still have too many, but a lot are AUK ones so I'm a bit reluctant to get rid of those although I don't use them. About half of AUK ones actually belong to The Marmite Queen, although I've unremembered which.

One of my mugs bears a photo of Giraffe snoozing by the AUK stall in a marquee at the York Rally.
