Well done Anders!
In fairness, the smart money was always on him, pitted as he was against kids with stabilizers, shopping baskets and a distinct lack of pedals (although I think the Like-a-bike was a DNS...)
Well, yeah, but the main thing was that he tried. On Friday, I told him that I had signed him up for a fun kids race, and not only did he say very clearly that he didn't want to do it, but he even berated me for signing him up without asking first! I told him I had done it late at night when he was asleep, and he said, "you should have asked--I would have been happy to wake up." :-/ He clearly was stressed by the idea of it--that kind of reaction runs in the family.
Then before the kids' race on Saturday, I pointed out that there weren't many kids in the race, and that the crew might appreciate it if he joined in. He thought it over, then pointed at the Big Nasty Hill just before the finish and said, "would we have to go up *that*?" When I said "no," he said "OK", and off we went. I've told him that even if he had finished way back, I would have been most proud of him for just trying it.
