LEL Season's Greeting Translation help needed.
« on: 23 December, 2009, 11:22:58 am »
It would be nice to have this image available for all nationalities represented at LEL in their own language.

I went for 'Season's Greetings' to be inclusive for non-Christian countries. it might not be appropriate for European countries where Joyeux Noel or similar might be normal. I might have to use a JPEG with Cyrillic and Japanese, the accents might be a problem in other languages. I can cut and paste from this thread for latin script, any advice beyond that is welcome. I envisage the resuting images being put on fora in the various countries.
So I need French, Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Hebrew, Italian, German, Danish and any others I've forgotten.
The picture is of the barn on the climb to Yad Moss which features on a long view in the DVD and on Youtube videos.
The text should be the nearest equivalent to 'Season's Greetings from all at LEL' but if it's easier to use 'From the LEL Team' that would be fine.

Thanks Gus, it's the 'From all at LEL' bit that I need the help with. I'm off to harvest a Yule log that I've spotted at the roadside. I'll be back later.

For the Swedish version (if you link jaded's submission) Fran alla i LEL (the first a in fran should have a ring above it as per the Danish version - my it skills lacking here -sorry)
For the French Joyeux Noel et Bon Annee de tout le monde a LEL - again my accents / typing the a before lel should have an accent starting high on left, low on right.

In German

Festliche Grüße von allen bei LEL.

however this sounds unusual and a less literal translation would be

Festliche Grüße vom ganzen Team LEL

ü is alt 129
ß is alt 225

Thanks, that's just what I need, the copy/paste will accept accents so if people can just write out a message along the general lines I can get them put up. If any of the national bodies want a 12mega pixel version I can try to sort somewhere to make it available. An Italian version would be especially welcome.

My take on it:

French: Bonne fêtes de fin d'année! - L'équipe de LEL
Spanish: ¡Felices Fiestas!  El equipo de LEL

It is slightly different from your version as the literal translation does not feel natural. You could put "L'équipe de LEL" in the bottom right corner.

Panoramix, I completely agree, a literal French translation doesn't make for a natural feel... thanks Gus for pointing out my typing errors!!

I do hope that I'm not being too presumptious in conveying the LEL teams' wishes. When I took the picture on Saturday I thought it would make a nice card for the Alston control team to greet the LEL riders. But I thought that was a bit exclusive, it took all the volunteers to smooth the way past that barn, twice. I've had an e-mail from a US rider from 2005, thanking me for the reminder. So I mean it to convey the wishes of everyone who has contributed to all the LELs from 1989, as a tribute to them, and as a greeting to the world.

The text should be the nearest equivalent to 'Season's Greetings from all at LEL' but if it's easier to use 'From the LEL Team' that would be fine.

Hebrew:

חג שמח מ LEL

'LEL' should be on the left, or the whole sentence from right to left:
2 letters word
3 letters word
1 letter
LEL

Sadly, no ;D
Each word should have its letters reversed.

The letters are on the right orientation, but their order within each word is reversed.

Actually this would work quite well for the French and spanish versions. (Remove the dash and put the bit after it at the bottom.
