My Dad was at school and played chess with Roger.

Spent the afternoon/early evening chez parents.
Dad says:
He still has the picture of the chess players
Roger liked my grandmother's chocolate cake
Roger and Jonathan used to construct 3D puzzles and use Dad as a guinea pig, rejecting puzzles Dad could solve
Dad went hitch-hiking & camping with Roger & others in Northern Italy. Roger took ill with fever one Friday night but the found a Jewish doctor named Ashkenazi, who dose him with penicillin and advised re fever reduction.
Lionel stated honey was Kosher because bees regurgitated their food and had cloven hooves...

During some historical research I encountered this remarkable family whose story is an example of the turbulence experienced by Jews in Europe, including the UK. Their achievements are all the more remarkable.
