There's a small quantity of white floating past the window but it might just be coming off the roof.  But my The Boss has gone out, so I'm outta here.

Outside my front door.
As they say in show business "go break a leg" that road looks very dangerous

I think I might cycle home that way.

...that road looks very dangerous.

That road's perfectly safe...

Driving on it, on the other hand, would be lethal!  :demon:

A positively tropical minus ten last night.

And today I saw two darwin award winners walking on the canal.

Just for a change I think that I would be tempted to cycle in the gutter or on the pavement (or not at all).

I didn't dare tackle it when it was like that. Fortunately, I'm on a corner with a much busier road so it's a 10 yard walk to get onto tarmac.

This morning, some more snow had fallen so it was much easier again. Also, I don't think the temperature has been as high as 0°C today.

A significant number of my usual Friday Night Bicycle Pub Crawl compatriots are wussing out tonight as they claim that the roads are too dangerous to cycle on.

They may be correct so I intend to use the bridleways.   ;D

They have been more ridable in the last couple of weeks than they were for the preceeding couple of months.

Looks like you Southend folks might be in for a pasting this weekend.

It may also snow a lot.

Well, I've still got 14 pints of Ringwood ale, almost 4 bottles of wine, a fair bit of sherry and port and some whisky.

We've even got some food in. Should be OK.

Just got back from Barrow-in-Furness, about 1/4-1/2" lying on the grass, which is a lot for there, roads clear.

A friend of mine came round to borrow my spade this lunchtime. He lives in a flat, & lacks the urge to hit people, so normally has no use for such a tool, but his car was snowed in. I went back with him to lend a hand, & half an hour later he was able to drive out of the car park. We dug his wheels out, & compacted enough snow to give him a track to the exit.

None of the cars in his section of car park had moved since the snow fell. It looked as if none were able to, without a bit of digging. Homebase has sold out of shovels (I was there this morning: it still had a few spades left, but very few, & going fast). B&Q is a very long walk - & I wouldn't be surprised if it's also sold out.  ;D

I was cycling on stuff worse than that on Christmas Eve, in Cambridge.  I could barely stand on it.

My daughter told me today that Kent police were closing roads as a precautionary measure, including, apparently, all main roads into Canterbury.

If you haven't set off, Nutty, drop in for a beer.

Thanks for the invite.  I left at 5pm precisely for a change, and as the snow was falling heavily at that point with huge flakes I meandered down to the seafront for a scenic ride.

Powdery flakes have now become large, heavy flakes of snow oop here in the frozen north.  I might investigate the bridleways tomorrow - they're usually impassable cos the horses' hooves churn them up terribly, and cycling through a quagmire is no fun.  So some lanes which I wouldn't usually consider may be considered
