"Smart Casual"
« on: 18 August, 2015, 09:10:47 pm »
I'm going to a champagne reception & lunch at the BT Tower tomorrow,  dress code is "smart casual" :o  , so my usual office jeans & t shirt won't fit the bill....

So....,  I've more or less decided on plain navy trousers, with a lighter blue linen sports jacket , but which shirt ?  My new, unworn "mystic lavender" linen one ? The "dusky pink" oxford ?  The blue check one that means cufflinks ??

It's all going to look crap after 2 hours on the train anyway...

And shoes !  Black loafers or the shiny brown Loake chukka's ?

I don't believe I'm asking for fashion tips from people I mostly see in lycra.......

Yeah, fashion advice from Audaxers.  Always a winner.

The pink oxford shirt and the Loakes.

Everyone is wearing red trousers these days. Go for it.

I'm sorry.
I could offer advice if you were attending a rubber and leather fetish event.
Unfortunately, on this occasion, I am unable to be of any help.

As the world's second worst dressed woman, I suggest the dusky pink Oxford and the black loafers.

Cuff links are a faff and brown shoes with blue trousers don't seem quite right.

Oh and enjoy the tower; I've not been up there for 50 years!

Definitely not black shoes with blue trousers.

I wear black shoes with blue trousers on a regular basis. If I owned some brown shoes I might wear them instead.
I wouldn't even consider a pink shirt in the shop, much less wear it. Lavender sounds nice.

I spent my teenage years avoiding casuals, and haven't looked back, tarring "smart casual" with the same brush on the way. So I'd be claiming that my casuals is smarter than the other folks :)

Hmmmmm,  no love for the lavender ?       The jacket is "Blueberry" ,   too much blue ?

I could swap the trousers for a new pair of chinos ?

Chinos, brown shoes, blue shirt, blue jacket would do it.

It's just the linen jacket with the linen shirt sounded like it could be a bit much.  But that's a nice tight weave, and depending on the fabric of the jacket could look really nice.

If you go for all blue it you could end up looking like you're wearing school uniform.  It's not that kind of party, is it?

One place I used to work, "smart casual" simply meant no jacket. But still a tie! :o

Just don't whatever you do wear brown shoes. With most colours of suit, they look fucking awful. The problem with then is they look great in the shoe shop on their own but don't go with anything.

Bearing in mind that linen is going to crease horribly on the journey, as well.

Add the black shoes and it'd look like a sea scouts uniform

Brown shoes are wrong. Otherwise wear what you feel comfortable in and won't look like a dishcloth at the end of the night.

Brahn boots, I ask you...

The shoe problem is easy. Just match them to the pedals.

Presumably SPD is too casual, and road shoes would be too formal, so Time ATAC would seem the best choice...

How about clips and straps? Clearly, leather straps and shiny Christophe clips are too formal, but would plastic clips and nylon straps be acceptable or do they give rather a shoddy impression? Perhaps best to go for a decent quality flat pedal, perhaps from a Pashley.
