Good news: I was offered a free pair of cycling shoes the right size, with pedals to suit, last night.

Bad news: different pedals from those I use now on my bikes, & my three pairs of matching shoes. Not really worth it.

Bad news: my weekend away has been called off due to bad weather.

Good news: I can now go to bestmate's birthday bash, which she arranged after I'd already booked the weekend away.

GN - I have just filed my tax return. This is an enormous relief.

BN - I have also paid a sum in income tax exceeding the sum I paid last year

GN - it was only £23.90 more than I paid last year, but I earned quite a bit more than I did last year

Worrying thought, possibly BN - does this mean I should be grateful to Gideon?

Do not worry:  HMRC are notoriously variable - they'll tell you that themselves!

It's entirely possibly that they've cocked it up and will lump you with a huge bill next year.

I don't think so: personal allowances have gone up fairly significantly and the business partnership formed by Mrs. Wow and myself is not a massive money spinner. My pensions take me over the personal tax allowance so all of my share of the business is subject to tax at 20%. We haven't submitted Mrs. Wow's return yet, but I'm hoping she won't have to pay any tax.

Next year the allowances go up again so my tax bill could be halved.

Good news:  I've got loads of leave left that I must use or lose by the end of Feb.
Good news:  I've pebble-dashed the next 6 weeks of my calender with duvet days, extended (extended) weekends and general loafing.

Bad news:  Well, there isn't any, really.  :D
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Good News: our friends in Aus are going to meet us in Croatia for a jolliday in September.

Bad News: The shortest route we can take still means a 180Km drive from the airport to where we are meeting them :(

Good: The Col, COS, Adjt & RSM have all gone off to various places - I can sod off at 3.30

Bad: Around 3.30 is when all the badly driven 4-wheel-drive-shopping-trollies come out to play :hand:

GN: Office heating is functioning as per specifications, finally!

BN: Office heating is functioning as per specifications.  I'm dressed for the usual state of things being just a bit too cold, which means I am overdressed, too warm, feeling sleepy and losing concentration.  Shedding clothing at my desk is not really an option.  I might loosen my tie and unbutton my collar - just hope it doesn't gain me the reputation of being a bit of a slob.

Good news: Boss handed me £50-worth of vouchers for doing a particular part of my role. I did it well, apparently.

Bad news: I opted for vouchers for John Lewis, so they will drop into the household pot and will likely never be seen again. Sigh.

Bad News: I'm in the Belgian office, but that doesn't quite merit a mention in the bad news thread, and the button that holds my trousers up escaped :o

Good News: Our finance director has some string that is now holding my trousers up.

Bad News: Obviously  I look like a tramp.

Good News: No one has noticed

Bad News: 'Tramp' must therefore be my normal look

Bad - I've tweaked something in my neck/shoulder in one of my pratfalls on Thursday and it fucking hurts.
Good - Pingu has brought me a G&T and my first chocolate in over a week.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Bad news - SmallestCub wasn't very well last night, on the hostelling weekend.  He got up this morning after a good night's sleep but was still a bit wobbly.  This was suboptimal when we were in a Northumbrian bunkhouse a long way from home with a long and complicated journey ahead.  Which was a sightly stressful prospect.

Good news - Mcshroom diverted via Scotch Corner so that he could drive us halfway home, and CrinklyAuntie drove up to meet us there, arriving about 2 minutes before us, so the boy didn't even have to change out of his jimjams and had a very calm and peaceful journey door to door, and is now tucked up on his own sofa with childrens tv to watch and a self-prescribed medicinal jam sandwich for lunch.

Hooray for kind people going a lot of extra miles.

Good News - I have a ticket for The Parker Quartet at St Georges Hall tonight.

Bad News - I'm sneezing loud enough to wake the dead, there is a Niagra of mucous running out of my nose and I think I've got a bit of a temperature  >:(

I may have to consider asking for a refund on my ticket  :(

Bad news: Guardian Extra thingy are doing two-for-one tickets on a concert we're going to. We've already got our tickets.

Good news: It'll be a good concert anyway.

Bad: I am now 60.

Good: The kids with their other halves are coming round and we're all going for a curry. The Belgian beer is already going down very nicely.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

Bad:  Our newish marketing bod has produced a corporate video to show the rebranding.

Good:  it's actually quite good... I had suspected she knew what she was doing, this almost confirms it.  Phew.
