Giro

This time next weekend will see me in the early stages of taking over the Idiot Box and recording the daily highlights of The Giro. We were not able to sort the logisitics of spending time at the race so TV will have to do. At least SWMBO is still evidencing an acceptance, allmost an interest, in my obsession.

I'm looking forward to the opening of the Grand Tour season

Unfortunately, I'll miss most of it as I'll be 'stuck' on a beach beach in Florida listening to the oil lapping on the beach!

I also think Evans will win.

Wiggins for the win.  I think they will treat it as a GC warm up for the real thing - that being the TdF but not this year.

But wait for the shock to drop of the 5 to 8 suspected dopers currently under investigation by the UCI.
Any time now and it will come out.

6 riders to be named:
2 x Italians, 2 x Spaniards, 1 x Russian, 1 x Slovenian

...and Pellizotti has just been withdrawn from Liquigas press conference.  So that'll be one of the Italians!

That wouldn't be one of the slovenians who was doing very well in the tour of Romandie, would it?

Pellizotti prefers going to the hairdressers and Prado didn't want to make an exhibition of himself.

Wiggins for the win.

With 4 Time Trials he must have a reasonable chance !

Better out than in. Bets on Pelizotti losing his TdF polka dot jersey?

And even worse today.

It also is very uncomfortable seeing the jersey on those new shoulders too.

Does anyone actually do a risk assessment for these courses? Or is it a cycing version of last man standing?

An excellent 5th place for Adam Blythe today. I saw him riding grass-track at Mildenhall in 2004. As a 14-year-old he was mixing it with men twice his age and size, and despite the disparity was holding his own and winning. I was so impressed I made a mental note of his name, thinking I'd probably hear of him again someday. I think we'll be hearing a lot more of him before long.

 That's uncanny - that's pretty much word for word what I just saying to Mrs C, except I was referring to the velodrome at Meadowbank rather than grass track at Mildenhall.

Very interesting stage today. Glad I had the chance to watch it live via NOS. Now waiting for a decent report on it for those who haven't seen it yet (so I won't reveal the highligths ;) ).

But if someone didn't want to know the result would they really be so dim as to start paging through a thread entitled 'Giro' and clearly discussing the various stage results ?
Anyway, I'll follow your lead and not say who won but I will add that Wednesday will be of interest to fans of David Millar  :)

Cracking race so far. Unless your name is C.Vandevelde or B.Wiggins.  :-\

Anything that could be said about the man in pink has been said before. No need to repeat it. I'm just enjoying the racing. Hurrah for Adam Blythe!
