Tippers. You know fine well that the only time I agree to anything like that is either a. in the pub or b. in a sleep deprived state after doing something stupid (I haven't done anything like as stupid as 9.5AA).

And there was me thinking this would be an ample stage for Ted to showcase his fixed ability skills and join you awheel ::-) wait until he has sunk a few tonight and get him signed up....... ;)

I would love to join you on this if I can get a pass after completing the Wiggle dragon ride the month before I will start laying the foundations

Don't worry it will get a mention tonight. The ride could also happily be moved to September as a warm up for the Flatlands. I might also drop it in conversation at the Top of Llanberis pass and on the decent back into Chepstow in May!

Indeed I do :o where to start - OD, Tomsk, Huggy, The Hustler/Quaffer, Tippers, Oaky all throughly decent chaps and then one dodgy one called Ted or something like that.....

The first MEMWNS ride of 2016 was a micro arrows to the Old Crown at Messing (chosen for its link to epiphany).

Nine of us appeared out of the fog at the pub, who knows there may be others still out there. First to arrive was Oaky who was sitting nursing a pint when I arrived just before 9 having shortened his route after almost cycling over a kerb. Tippers trundled in next closely followed by Huggy and Jiberjaber who had somehow met en route. Tomsk breezed in next after another epic journey from the other side of the County. The group was completed later when the Hustler and Frodo and Bilbo Baggins arrived.

Most of us freestyled along a route we knew well but the Witham peloton like to follow a pre-determined route so somehow managed to include an ascent of TMNH and a descent of Market Hill on their way to Messing.

We sampled a limited but well kept selection of Brewers Gold, Broadside and Southwold. The Quaffer's Choice was held over until Saturday.

Talk was mainly of next week's visit to the Olympic velodrome. Huggy has done some sterling work in organising what should be a 30 strong group of us to try the boards. It turns out that DL has already had a coaching session with Sir Chris Hoy so we look forward to seeing him as a blur.

Another fine night and the rain and wind held off until we all got home.

It was indeed a thoroughly enjoyable evening as always!

OD you would of been proud of Andy who quite rightly routed out via TMNH O:-) He then undertook a decent of Market Hill with no back brake - HERO ;D

It does seem the excitement is building ahead of the Velodrome next week

Andy - re: HY/RD brakes, two PDFs and a video on their web site.

Install video:
http://www.youtube.com/v/_8T6cON6y_Y&rel=1

Technical Bulletin: (basically the check I did last night)
http://www.trpbrakes.com/userfiles/file/TRP%20HYRD%20Technical%20Bulletin%20English%20Rev%20B.pdf

Install and Adjustment manual: (Section B refers to how to adjust the cable).
https://www.trpbrakes.com/userfiles/file/HYRD_Final.pdf

So essentially what I would do would be to undo the cable grip bolt. Fully turn the barrel adjustment into the calliper (clockwise as you look down the cable to the brake).
Then screw in the lock knob, pull the cable inner hard and tighten the cable grip bolt.
If (with the lock knob still screwed in) there is still movement in the leaver, you can use the barrel adjuster to take up any remaining slack, 2 things to note though,
- there is only 1.5 turns of adjustment, so if you have gone more than say half a turn, you probably didn't pull the cable tight enough.
- once you have adjusted the barrel to tighten the cable outer, it might be hard to undo the lock knob, so back off the barrel slightly then undo the lock knob and adjust the barrel back to where it was.

I think the problem on yours is the above process wasn't followed so the actuator arm (the bit the cable is attached to) isn't returning to the right place when the brake is off, so the vent that allows the pad wear compensation happening - more detail in the above technical bulletin.

Joergen

Excellent work Tomsk, it's been too long since we started a new mid-Essex thread

Jibbers / Andy - you know HY/RDs are only compatable with the most upto date brakes levers don't you? The levers must have a 2.5 pull ratio, the latest 105 levers as used by tippers are fine. The last time I looked TRP don't make this fact known, again last time I looked their own levers weren't compatable.

Not sure of what the pull ratio is on the HR/RD we have on ours though they are a Mk2 version of the calliper where the casing is all one cast - so not sure if they have made any other mechanical adjustments. Mine worked fine on Tiagra (which I think Andy still has on his) and also with 105 5700 STI which I have on now. Both these bikes are the same 2015 CDF20 with factory fit HR/RD's on. On Andy's bike I think the actuator arm wasn't returning far enough back to allow the pistons to self adjust to the pad wear, hence the lack of break.

Andy - still worth dropping the wheel and taking the pads out to check them, I was surprised how much pad it looked like there was compared to actually was when I took them out and looked...

It's not the calipers that have the 2.5 pull ratio, its the levers. Older levers only have a 2.0 ratio which means the lever throw is such that the lever hits the bar when braking hard.

Just been assaulted by two young men in a black Audi, S600 DLK, on Roxwell Road Chelmsford. Close overtake then matched my speed and sprayed screen wash fluid into my face.
Clear glasses saved the day.
Reported to police and crime number obtained.
Watch out our there

Not good, best of luck with the police.

There has been too much of this sort of thing recently. On one of the midweek rides a car slowed down on the same road and I had a bottle thrown at me. We seem to be having an altercation with a car every second week or so.
