the VERY muddy road up to Tolleshunt Knights.

I actually went down that lane and thought I must have the wrong route as it was so bad.   It wasn't like that the last time I went down it, which is understandable given it was in October.

Whilst the only ale on offer was GK IPA, to the pub's credit I found it a lot better-tasting than it usually is.

You will have noted the lack of beer review in the original write up.  It wasn't a bad IPA though.

We need to up our game for next week.  Perhaps somewhere totally unsuitable like a gastro pub that doesn't really welcome passing trade - Compasses at Pattiswick springs to mind.  I think we went there this time last year.

In the spirit of "what's the worst that can happen?" I think we should book their private room for a Wednesday evening. ted has found out that £99 for 10 people buys 1x bottle of house spirits, 10x shots and some jugs of mixers.

That's bloomin' good value!

I suppose when you're from 'Boro that counts as upmarket.

OD has set his sights a bit higher though.

It must be dreadful to do a job that doesn't involve drinking for free.

Why indeed.

Quoting Ovid is a little highbrow for a Friday morning though.

You should know!  Actually, how do you know any Latin at all?  Didn't Caesar stop at Hadrian's Wall?

<sticks nose in to thread>

IIRC Caesar only got as far as Essex, Trinovantes land, ICBW.

OK, the Romans only got as far as Hadrian's Wall.

Which doesn't explain why ted, a Scotsman, knows Latin.

What?  You mean he was raised by wolves or something?  It doesn't explain why he speaks Latin does it?  Anyhow, where is he?  Oh hang on, it's Friday.  Golf.
