Dead cateye
« on: 27 December, 2021, 12:23:36 pm »

I have a cateye gvolt 20, I got it as a backup light for a race that required a STVZO approved backup. I wasn't using it much so moved it to the Brompton as a light there. Recently it stopped working on a ride, and seems to refuse to charge.

It's less than 2 years old, and i've probably charged it less than 10 times.

Any thoughts on where i should start with diagnostics?

Electrical waste recycling centre then.

You might have some luck opening it up and jump-starting the battery with a bench power supply or other voltage source.

Stick it in the freezer for a week, defrost it in the fridge to minimise condensation, then try charging it.

It seems there is no obvious way to disassemble it. So I guess to the WEEE collection point it goes :(

It looks like it contains 2*AA batteries.  What happens if you put two new ones in?

The instruction sheet reckons you can slide the top off.

Wow!

I still suggest you put a pair of charged/fresh AAs in and see if it works.

Maybe prise it open. If it breaks, tape it together if it works again.
