CHELTENHAM FLYER 200 (CIDER WITH ROSIE 150, CHARACTER COLN 100) SAT 19 MARCH 2022

I hope the announcement of a resumption of the Cheltenham Flyer events comes in good time for you to enter. I hope to restore the events using the favourite ‘normal’ Controls as these make for a more friendly event and support for local charities. Commercial alternatives are available if I need to re-schedule. I rode the Perm version of the 200 and enjoyed a superb passage of the Vale of Pewsey. Let’s hope for a similar day on 19 March. Andoversford Village Hall booked for Parking, pre-depart and Arrivee. Events will respect current Covid-19 Rules.

I had hoped to run it later but the Calendar was blocked (other events clash). Listing reads:

Sat 19 Mar 2022   Andoversford, Nr Cheltenham   200km (200km)   Cheltenham New Flyer   08:00   £6.00   Stephen Poulton
Sat 19 Mar 2022   Andoversford, Nr Cheltenham   150km (151km)   Cider with Rosie 150      08:30   £7.00   Stephen Poulton
Sat 19 Mar 2022   Andoversford, Nr Cheltenham   100km (100km)   Character Coln              09:00   £7.00   Stephen Poulton

Oh blast, busy that day...but will add a massive plug for these events. The 200 is brilliant with great fuss laid on at the first 2 controls, and cake at finish (usually)

With the resumption of Cheltenham Flyer events, I can advise that I have booked the excellent local support teams that previously welcomed and fed riders down-route. All riders will use the Fernham Village Hall (converted/shared Church) personed by Uffington WI, whilst the 200km riders will continue to The Church Hall in Burbage.

So, I hope you might join us after the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival to renew memories of the Cotswolds and Coln Valley.

I am really looking forward to this - WI cake in church halls, what looks like lovely weather, Tudor history (Wolf Hall) and fantastic little lanes along my favourite landscape - rolling chalk downs and vales.

It looks like a small list on the 200km - if anybody on here is riding, I'll be on the dark blue Elan with a camera warning sticker on my rack pack. Say hello!

Covid means cancelled weekend plans. If I test negative and feel OK I'll see if I can enter and ride

That is a pain - get well!

I'm not sure I would fancy a long ride after covid - I had a pretty 'epic' cold a couple of weeks ago, and my legs were rubbish for 7 days after symptoms were clear. It was weird - I felt "fine" and full of beans - but even a little ride was hard work with really achey legs.

Thankyou

Oddly enough it was last Sunday that I realised I had covid.  I had a 200k that day, I'd got up at 5am, but just didn't feel motivated at all. I'd had a mild sore throat and sniffles for 5 days (but had tested neg a few times). What really swung it was when I was washing my hands and the soap smelt like dogshit.

Did a test...very positive.

This weekend was supposed to be a family visit, but as sister is going to Spain in 8 days I didn't want to jeopardise so I cancelled. Leaves open possibility for CF200, but I still have to test neg first

That was bloody brilliant - what a pretty route! And we had incredible weather - dry and sunny all day. I can see why people make this a regular event.

It was well worth the 5am start, and the 9pm final return: I really recommend this event - I think that might have been the best days cycling I've had for decades. Really very special.

Burbage to Laycock was rapid…after that, it was bluster cross/headwinds making it very tough going :o I still managed to finish at 16:25, though ;D
DJR (Dave Russell) now retired. Carbon Beone parts bin special retired to turbo trainer, Brompton broken, as was I, Whyte Suffolk dismantled and sold. Now have Mason Definition and Orbea M20i.

Normally there's a SW wind and so that bit on the fringes of the Salisbury Plain can be horrendous.

Steve has made it such a great event. Sorry to have missed it.

A beautiful if cold and windy day, yet lovely sunshine.  Brilliant old school controls, fantastic. Thank you Stephen and your team of helpers. Overall a brilliant day out.

I hope it was not all luck that the sun shone and the wind might have helped. Congrats to finishers and thanks for finishing with time to spare for my Arrivee team to pack early. Many congratulatory comments for both Control teams and route, so hope for a repeat in 2023. I rode the Perm route AC on Tues to collect Control packs and had a super ride, though lost 2hrs to social calls and bought a cold 5hrs night ride from Burbage. Commiserations to CV19 sufferers but thanks for staying away. This new Normal takes some getting used to.
