Bloody hell.  We need strong competition between at least two major makes for the technology to advance well.  Maybe SRAM will take the place of Campag - unless they're already owned by Shimano!?

Perhaps the new 11 sp groups weren't as popular as hoped?

SRAM are not owned by Shimano.

BTW - and OT, I've always wondered if SRAM is really supposed to be pronounced as sram like the merkins do, or can I stick with my initial thought that it should be 'essram'?

More like Tata buying Rolls-Royce, Shirley?

If this is true, I won't be buying Campag or Shimano

Doesn't the competition commission of the EU look at things like this.

I suppose it isn't particularly strategic but still...

Slightly OT but did anyone see the Oasis ads during the tour ? The photo of the Japanese girls reminded me of it - had my kids in stitches.

I'd love to have been at the storyboarding and client presentation for that one.

OK, completely OT.

Toyota:Alfa in my view, although I haven't seen anything other than rumour, so suspect that it's a LOB.

I always thought 'essram' sounded right too.  I've been told I'm wrong, but inside my head it just sounds better like that...

That analogy more or less works now that Alfas no longer channel the Cheshire Cat. There was a time when an Alfa Romeo would have rusted away to nothing well before a Campag part would have worn out.  ;D

Shram down here too.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

I couldn't think of one that was true, but the image of Toyota (Japanese, reliable, boring engineering) and Alfa Romeo (Sporty, glamorous, less hard wearing, design) seemed apt.
